Strange right-click delay? Ever happened to anyone before?

Just noticed there is a delay of about 3½ seconds until the meny comes up, all windows, all programs. Just figured I'd ask 1st if anyone has experienced this before that might provide a solution before I dig deeper on my own. Thanks

i sometimes get a second delay, but 3 1/2 seconds seems an awefull long time for a PC.

Some system software programs (winzip, cute FTP, etc) will install a new menu item into the right click menu. I got a similar delay after installing Net Manage at work and having it ask everytime I would right click on something about FTP'ing the file. Once that part of it was removed the delay went away. Check the menu and see if you have any menu items you might not have realized were there.

McAfee Virus shield causes this in Internet Explorer. Disable this puppy.

Yeah McAffee did that to my system too... I uninstalled it and no more problems.

there is actually a registry fix for that problem with mcafee. Its for w2k, but it might work on other OS's. I'm not sure if it actually works because i've never tried it- i simply got rid of mcafee and left it like that. Its probably only a matter of time till my computer gets sick...

Open Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
NETWORK ASSOCIATES
TVD
SHARED COMPONENTS
ON ACCESS SCANNER
McSHIELD
CONFIGURATION

Double-click on the ScannerThreadTimeout and change the value to eight f 's
(ffffffff)

Close and restart VShield and it is a vast improvement!

Also, I'm not sure if the latest version of virus scan, which is 5.21 I think, has fixed this problem already.

LordFortius: That was it, thanks! It seems like the problem exists in 5.21 still.

Thanks LordFortius.
Now my company won't get pissed at me for disabling Virus Shield. They'll never even know about the reg-hack.
