Strange T40 visual artifact

Hi, I'm wondeirng if any of the other t40 owners have come across this before,

Over the past couple days I've started to notice a white dot on my desktop, its stays white nearly no matter what, I drag a window over it, change my wall paper, whatever. When I first noticed it I thought it was a white stuck pixel (since that is almost exactly what it looks like, albeit a bit large though). in the middle of the screen that I had somehow not noticed, needless to say I starting to get pissed. However I then found that moving a black mouse cursor over it covered it up (ie. it no longer displayed only white). So I realized it must be some software artifact and i rebooted my machine, sure enough it was gone and i was happy. Since then, its popped up a couple more times, and I'm not sure what is causing it, so if anyone else has noticed something like this, I'd be curious to hear what they say. It is somewhat annoying

I know exactly what you meant It is a dot that show up out of no where and at random. When you move your cursor over it (you have to do it carefully and find the right spot), you will find that the cursor change to up and down icon (if you have IBM scroll lock program installed). This is an artifact created by the IBM scroll lock function. Most likely happen when you use the UltraNav scroll lock function. You can get rid of it (if it is there) by carefully move your mouse over it until it display the scroll lock icon, then do the scroll function (either by press the middle button on the UtraNav and move the pointing stick up or down or move your finger up/down on the right side of your touchpad). I don't know if IBM fix this in a recent version of UltraNav driver but I've noticed it anymore.

ack. i got one of these 'dead pixels' too. you can't see it when something black is covering it but you can any other time. it doesn't go away after a reboot. i don't think it was there when i first got the machine. i hope this is just a software fluke. i dont want to send the the whole thing back. they are allready sending me a new dvd/cdrw drive because the one i got only plays dvds and not data or music cds (printed or burned).

just got this two days ago. i have the 2373 19U with the radeon 7500 32mb card.

any ideas?

paranoia. i'm not sure anymore. i think they might come and go now. they really aren't noticeable when i'm viewing webpages and what not. i really have to look for them on a white background. hell, i'm a big apeture grille fan and the two lines invovled have never bothered me at all.
