Athlon XP+1700
1GB Ram
40GB maxtor HD with 10 GB free
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 MB
Windows XP Home
MSI KT-Ultra Motherboard
Directx 9.0b
Video Drivers: NVidia 52.16 (2003-10-23)
15" LCD Screen (KDS Rad-5)

Ever since I installed DirectX 9.0b I have been getting odd blue pixels on all my screens. They tend to appear along borders of textures and shadings.

I've run all diagnostics and they say everything is fine.

I had DirectX 9.0a and then switched to 9.0 previously.

Can I safely use a safe point and revert the system or does Direct X allow for automatic reverting to a previous version?

Or do you folks think it might be another problem?

Please help!

Cheers.

What do you have the REFRESH RATE set to?
(max at that resolution is 75Hz)

Windows XP has a problem with detecting correct refresh rates.
If it is set to low it can cause the artifact issues you are encountering.

Hmmmm...I've been using 60 Hertz. I'm not sure if higher rates are compatible with my LCD monitor but I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the tips.

Cheers.

Have you updated to the newest driver for your video card? Some drivers may not be compatible with DirectX 9.0b. Even if you have the newest drivers try re-installing them (first uninstall the current drivers and after rebooting set the video card as standard SVGA card. Then reboot again and install the newest drivers for you video card.

Well my drivers (see top) are 3 days old. I don't think they get any newer than that.

Already uninstalled, re-installed, redownloaded, etc.

Maybe my card just isn't 9.0b compatible.

Cheers.

Sorry been out of town.

Yes problem exists on any monitor...it has to be a directx problem. Unfortunately I cannot system restore at this time...gah looks like reformat time.

Oh well thanks all for the suggestions...Microsoft sucks!

Cheers.

I'm running a Gainward TI4200 w/128, overclocked, true color, 1024x768 on a crt with DX9.a (had to upgrade for the Halo demo) with no problems. I don't think it's the video chipset.

My setup ran fine under directx 9.

It also ran fine under directx 9.0a.

The only element that has changed was upgrading to directx 9.0b

I haven't gotten around to reformmating yet so I cannot say with certainty that it is directx, but since it has been the only thing changed on my system...(I re-installed older versions of my graphics drivers as well, no effect).

I can only hope that NVidia comes up with a 9.0b update.

Cheers.
