Just finished the season. Liked it better than the 1st. But i have a question maybe you nerds can help me with.
In episode 6 when they went to the junk yard with the bus they fortified etc. What movie was that initial scene from when they first came into the yard and then the other kids came down the hill to join them. Before they started fortifying it etc. I could have sworn i've seen that scene from another movie which Stranger Things loves to do.

Any help? Just me?..am i imaging a movie i cant remember from the 80's lol

Stephen King's IT had a similar scene in a junkyard when the kids set up an ambush on the bullies with a full on rock assault

Just binged the rest of the season last night and paying for it at the office right now. I loved it though.

I binge watch season 2 in one weekend.
I needed some good rest anyway. And it was good.
I liked season 1 and 2 both very much.

Classic science fiction series story that will always work for me.

It also reminds of dream catcher also from Stephen King. The scene where the bullies force Dudditz to eat a turd and are challenged and scared off... Saving Dudditz from an awful lunch.

I think that was from the first season. They used that same junkyard and bus before. But outside of that, no idea. lol

Yes. They hid out there when the helicopter from the bad guys was looking for them.
I just finished Polywog, going to the bathroom. What happened to the walkie-talkie that the one kid dropped at the bathroom stall? They'd know he was there when they saw it on the ground.

I bet you are right. Forgot about that. Im so used to seeing imagery etc from 80s movies i just assumed i was picturing that place from an old movie, when in fact it was probably same show.

It was probably influenced from elsewhere before though, I feel like that scenery is definitely more familiar than just Stranger Things.

Which is to say, sure the same imagery was used in Season 1, but for that season's usage of it, it probably was from an influence.

Ok I'm a little disappointed in ST2. Some of the writing just seemed...sloppy or lazy to me.
Have we really not reached the point where the 'I'm just going to investigate this mysterious and almost certainly incredibly dangerous place myself and not tell anyone else about it' is still a thing?' Hopper should have told someone about the tunnels before he went down there. And Dart - really? Dart probably killed\prevented several people from escaping or hiding in the lab - maybe even killed Bob but we're just going to let Dustin slide on that? And the lead scientist. He's just slightly injured in a stair well when everyone else is dead? They clearly hunt in packs so they would have finished him off. Also - a huge dick move to tell Bob to leave when the demidog was still in the hallway. Although Bob is an idiot for stopping running when he did.

Those are just the main ones off the top of my head although Billy and 8 seem like severely under utilized characters for how much screen time they got.

Excellent, just awesome season. Much better than S1 IMO.

The horror is still there, but not as morbid as S1. The music/soundtrack use is just phenomenal. Those guys did really well as overall music score helps a lot.

All of the new characters work out well. I was sorry to
see one of them eaten up

Chef Hopper, Bob Newby, Eleven and Dr. Owens are best this season for me. Truly hope to see season 3.
lol, I loved Bob N00blet. I think I've liked Sean Astin in everything I've seen him in and he is great as Bob.
I was bummed when he became dinner.

I enjoyed Stranger Things 2 a lot. I don't think I did quite as much as the first season but it was just about as good, to me anyway. I do think the music/soundtrack was definitely better and there were multiple scenes that stood out to me as being shot well or interestingly. Oh and Nancy <3

Can we talk about Steve for a minute here? That kid/guy got royally screwed this entire series.

He loses his girl (whom he apparently truly is in love with)
He's forced to defend the nerds, putting his own life at risk repeatedly when he really has no skin in the game (no family members etc)
He's beaten to shit by Billy his arch nemesis who he's really done nothing against except be the pretty/popular guy in school.

And lets talk a bit about Billy (and Max) a bit too. WTH was Billy's role here? Why was he even in the story in the first place?

His story/character goes nowhere through the episodes.
He ends up beating up the good guy (Billy) only to be drugged by his sister. Is he not going to be pissed off and the same person when we comes through?
What was with the flirting with the MILF? While funny, it was just... odd and out of place.
I don't get why he was even in the series at all.

Lastly, the "Sisters" episode was a steaming pile of garbage and made me dislike (or at the very least like less) Eleven. Eleven's likability really tanked in S2 I think.

All that being said, I LOVE the show.

Billy is the stand-in for the actor that played the Cobra Kai dude (also Billy, right? lol) and the very same douchecanoe in Back to School and every other movie he appeared in during the 80s. You can't have a nostalgia trip like Stranger Things without a Billy. You could also argue that he's Chet from Weird Science. Doesn't matter if he's integral or not, but there must be a Billy.

But in all those other situations, "Billy" played a role in the storyline. There'd be no Karate Kid without William Zabka's portrayal of "Johnny". Usually that "Billy" is an antagonist to the shows protagonist and plays an integral role. In this case, they just threw in a 80s "jerk" for the sake of it. Really seemed pointless.

Billy WAS a pointless character who also turned out to be the cliched badass because "daddy is hard on me" so he also had that going. The worst scene in the entire season 2 was when he went looking for his sister and the mom was reading a Fabio book and came to the door. That was one of the worst scenes I've ever seen in a TV show and was completely out of place.

Well the scene was funny at least. But entirely pointless is an understatement. She wasn't even there nor did the mom know where she was. To have him show up there and have a prolonged scene of those two creepily interacting as they did served no point and was based off no prior scene/storyline in the show.

I thought that scene was hilarious, especially knowing her husband's character.

Exactly. That's one thing that hasn't really been fleshed out more, the mom's slight dissatisfaction with the boring husband has been there but barely noted, they've never lingered on it. This was typical I think: the stereotypical badass young man ignites a new flame in a MILF.

It belongs in this show I think, it's always been needed and let's not kid ourselves, as this is again 80's/90's meta so this fits right in, even if it doesn't go any further.

Yea this is more or less what my comment about his character earlier in the thread was. I full on expected him to end up being the 'bad guy' at the end...like possessed or something instead of the kid who was.

It's always possible more was planned and got cut...or something to come in S3.

Exactly what I'm thinking. It seems they may have in mind a turn-around for Billy much as they had for Steve - but then again, I guess Steve's turn around was almost entirely because the actor is apparently such a nice guy that the writers decided he should have some redemption. I think Billy could have that - it's almost a complete 180 for him after Max (step-sister) drugged him. Steve got to witness all the crazy shit though, but Billy hasn't yet - S3 could very well see him coming off that turn-around while also getting first-hand experience with the upside down. Max had that very same moment and could help inspire Billy to stop being her foil and join them, or perhaps he'll just be largely non-existent as he may not want any part in it even after he discovers the truth.

All in all, I think we can agree that S2E7 needs to never be repeated, the formula that brought that upon us should be barred from serving as inspiration for any further episodes.

All in all i don't think that episode was too bad, but it was out of place, which the writers admitted.

Great show and i thought that season 2 was just as good as the first season. The memberberries are strong!

First episode looked pretty good. Good enough to keep watching anyway.

I never understood the attraction of Winona Ryder...decent enough actress...but not that good looking.

Well she has a big brown beaver.
