I would rather they take an American Horror Story approach and do a completely different story. I thought the first season wasn't too bad, but I did find it a bit too... neat... at the end, and some characters seemed to make choices that seemed far too contrived ("I need to do ____ to forward the plot!"). I also wonder if it would've been better to avoid showing the monster so soon. (I believe they showed it in the second or third episode?) Overall, it's not too bad. I liked the 80s synth opening theme.

Agreed. She hammed it up a little too much. I think the directors should have reined her in more.

i dont agree. I think she did a excellent job and delivered a truly amazing and captivating performance. she played the hysterical mom who had a whole lot of very crazy shit happen to her very well.

My ideas on how break up the seasons:

S2: in the 90s, boys are grown and in college when things become strange again, similar to the first season.

S3: in the 2000s, Government is trying to secure the "upside down" to have a way to move troops undetected. Story follows a squad trapped when things go wrong.

S4: Current day, "upside down" has been tamed, people regular use it for transportation and storage. If you want to take the express lane on the highway, you take the exit onto a gate and then back off later down the road. But in the background there's an evil gathering.

We finished this up the other day and I thought the production was, by and large, top notch. Nailed the 80s horror/adventure kids aesthetic with set design and music. The cold war, government-up-to-no-good unleashes unexpected evil on a small community.

My assumption and hope is that this is more of a series of stories rather than a running story? I'd like another 8 episodes of something different, as I felt that this season ended perfectly with that Twilight Zone twist at the end--no need to carry it further.

I enjoyed it myself, had never heard of the Duffer Brothers.

Went searching a bit, was expecting it to be some kind of Spielburg/Stephen King hook up.

It had a lot of Stand By Me/TommyKnockers and other things involved it seemed to me.

I like some of these ideas

Enjoyed the series. The D&D references were great, like playing for 10 hours, lol I remember doing that.

who was that?
Barb was the girl who got taken when she was on the diving board of the douchebag boyfriend's pool.

I enjoyed the series - thought it was a good length with good acting and great dialogue (I like "realistic" dialogue - when you could actually envision that conversation happening). I didn't think Winona's performance was over the top at all, it was perfect for the character she portrayed. The story wasn't outstanding to me but I'm not a big sci-fi guy. I did get actual chills during the scene where Will reached out to Winona in his bedroom.

I had watched Hemlock Grove with my son and thought the first season was pretty good, then season 2 got progressively worse. I tried to stay awake for the first couple of episodes of S3 but we both decided the series was done for us. I have a feeling that subsequent seasons of Stranger Things might have the same pattern.

If Hemlock Grove (dumpster fire) managed to get renewed for 3 seasons, there's no doubt in my mind that this series should have a good run.

Posting without reading the thread because I'm only 7/8 way through and don't want spoilers.

Does anyone else think the police chief's actor, David Harbour, could play a perfect Han Solo/Indiana Jones?

Solid 9/10 show btw. Started watching yesterday afternoon and couldn't quit until I had to sleep for the night.

It just comes down to how much story does the team have. I know they've said they have a whole ton of mythology/backstory for the upside down that they'd love a chance to explore, but I don't know if that extends to multiple seasons or just one more. I'm happy for just one more season if they explore all the great stuff and leave a satisfying ending.

I still say I am perfectly satisfied if, for some horrible reason, Netflix does not order another season. I loved the ending, one of the best I've seen for a show in a long time. It wouldn't be a Firefly or Sarah Connor Chronicles if they failed to renew it, where you're just left devastated.

If you liked this, watch 11.22.63 on Hulu. It's another 8-part miniseries. Stephen King is actually credited as an executive producer, along with J.J. Abrams.

I'm 3 episodes in, and this show is WAAAY better than Stranger Things. Don't read anything that even spoils the premise of the show. Just watch it. It's better that way.

That's all I will say!

I plan to watch it at some point. The book was amazing. I don't think the miniseries will be quite as good like most King adaptations.

I'd also be surprised if it's as good as Stranger Things.

I can also vouch for 11.22.63 being very good.

I really enjoyed this time travelling show (it's really a one shot mini-series).

Its OK, but I don't agree that it is better. It's basically just another love story wrapped up in some sci-fi. I got about 5 episodes in, but haven't went back to it.
