My wife had to go out of town. So I'm going to have to wait.Season 2 is up Binging when I get home.
You poor SOB. Maybe my wife and I will binge tomorrow, today is too busy.My wife had to go out of town. So I'm going to have to wait.
Just finished binging with my wife. Awesome season, I liked it as much as the first! I can't help but see a lot of Half Life influences in this show, along with the obvious Spielberg themes
That's kinda how I felt about this season...it felt like I was watching a reboot of Aliens when the alien-dogs starting chasing/killing people. That part killed it for me but it's still watchable and mildly enjoyable.I'm 5 episodes into this season and it's just alright. It's not nearly as good as season 1 was to me. It's like they are trying a bit too hard this time around. I also feel like 5 episodes in barely anything has happened. I'm going to finish the season for sure but this season doesn't have me wanting to watch the next one nearly as bad as season 1 did.
I watched the after show show they have on netflix. I don't normally watch stuff like that but it was actually interesting. And one thing I noticed was everyone including the writers are young as shit, their fucking kids!
There are spoilers for the majority of the season in my post by the way.
I thought season two was fine... but that's it. There were a few storylines that just weren't that good. The worst part was probably the two kids from California. The girl felt a little tacked on, and mostly served as a dividing mechanism (between the two Dustin and Lucas, and El and Mike). The brother's character and even looks felt like a straight-up rip-off of Henry Bowers from Stephen King's IT. They even gave him the emotionally abusive father as a nice cherry on top. Although, the problem is that his arc just felt... useless.
El's arc was also quite useless. She ends up going to find her mom, which is fine; however, that just serves as a foil to get her to find Eight. The problem is that the whole Chicago arc was about El deciding to not follow a path of vengeance and to go back to help her friends, but nothing prior to that arc ever gives us the idea that she's in some inner-turmoil over whether she should be angry against her former captors. (That was more or less a plot point during season one.) Most of the stuff prior to her leaving was her being distraught over Hopper keeping her cooped up. Oh, and Mike's reaction when hearing about that was... a bit over the top.
One thing that was a bit jarring was how they'd jump around chronologically, which mostly occurred when dealing with El on her own. For example, they show her going to dive in to talk to her mom, but they wait a while to actually do it. What isn't apparent is that they're actually going back in time to show that scene. You only realize that El's events are happening concurrently when she's near the end of her arc and she sees Hopper at the console in the Hawkin's Lab basement when the soldiers were being ambushed, which is something we saw earlier.
The main story was fine, but it didn't feel as "tight" as dealing with a single monster.
I thought her tracking down her mom and that story was interesting enough, but it was over with so quickly there wasn't enough time to build much drama/emotion into it so I don't think it had enough impact.
The jumps in time were hard to follow at first, but once you recognize how much longer El's hair is in the present it makes it easier to tell when it's one of the "past" sequences.
I had no problem with El finding her mom. It's just that finding her mom was a stop in the road to finding Eight, which really didn't do anything for El. I mean... it challenged El to be lenient toward one of her captors, but you normally do something like that with a character that had gone through an arc that specifically related to that culmination. El's previous actions in the season had nothing to do with that. I assume it was a quick and dirty way to show El maturing or whatever.
Oh, no... I don't mean the scenes after El escaped from the Upside Down, which happened right after season one. I mean the organization of scenes in the second half of the season. They showed El about to dive in to talk to her mom, then they go back to Hawkins for a while, and then go back to El. the thing is... in El's timeline, none of the Hawkins stuff has happened yet. This isn't readily apparent until the end of the Chicago arc when she dives in and sees Hopper at the console, which we saw an episode prior. Things were just getting all wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey!

They are making 4 seasons and then ending it (assuming story is there). Season 3 due in 2019. But even the creators are like "really..what more can happen to these kids in a year" so I'm not sure they have a good idea yet.
I liked season 2. Were there glaring plot holes? Sure...but just about every TV show has some...some worse than others. I agree that "Mad Max" and her puke step brother really didn't fit right...not sure what was up with that...BUT, overall, this season was as good as season 1...and I hope they keel it going.
