Did anyone else lol at Steve's bat twirl?

Not a LOL, more like a WTF. He wasn't that tough of a guy, and I don't think they foreshadowed any proficiency with a bat. Maybe they said he was a baseball player and I missed it.
That monster in general was kinda strange when it came to damage. The bat hurt him, but bullets didn't, even submachine guns. And its not like it was a supernatural beast or anything, just extra dimensional.

I finished it this weekend. Seemed like a remake/re-imagining of Steven Kings IT.

Yes! While watching it I was constantly harping back to the first part of IT when they were kids sans clown of course.

There were a bunch of tv/movie cliches that annoyed me (ie it suffered major Sons of Anarchy Syndrome), but it was entertaining enough to make me binge watch it. Also, this would never have worked if they had used the current decade.

I was confused as to why
they didn't kill the sheriff, but rather drugged him and deposited him at his trailer, they didn't seem to have an issue killing or trying to kill everyone else
My guess is that they left a bunch of loose ends depending on a few things--whether they get picked up for another season, and whether they do a new cast/new storyline in Season 2. I figured this show might be very different season to season (like American Horror Story or True Detective.) Not sure what kind of options the car has their contracts. The Duffers may choose to do alien close encounters next season, or ghosts, or time travel.

The sheriff could be a common thread character--he could be an insider now who gets assigned to investigate "strange things" around the country.

I hope its something like this. It could even take place in the same town, but follow different characters. For example, it would be kinda cool if the group we follow next time were the group of 4 girls that were playing in the backyard that the boys ran through when escaping the government. Maybe they are dealing with a ghost. And you see the first season kids/characters in the background every so often. They could have tied it in with the sheriffs need for meds
aside from the loss of his kid
...he lives in a really f*ed up town and its getting to him.

Yea, I was thinking it might make an interesting horror version of Eureka, or basically season long episodes of X-Files type stories in the same town.

killing him would have caused issues for them. a missing kid is one thing, if the sheriff rando kills himself it would cause bigger probs and bring more attention

On the surface that seems like a plot hole but, here's my take on it.

You have to remember the motivation of the scientist at the time. The primary goal above all else was to retrieve the psychic child. So they returned the police chief to his home unharmed. Then they bugged his trailer in hopes that he might discover clues that could lead them to the child. In his position as chief of police he would be privy to a lot of information regarding the people of the town. In this role he is more valuable to them alive than dead.

If they killed a man of his status in town then the entire police force would have shifted their efforts to find his killer and that investigation would most likely lead them to the research facility. Since they had no idea where the kid was and they were under pressure to retrieve her quickly, any information they could lift from him would be helpful.

The chef in the diner was shot without hesitation because he had no status and no resources they could tap into to help them find the child. All he could do was talk about what had happened and possibly draw unwanted attention.

I agreed. The first thing I thought of in the first few minutes was that it was going to be a Super 8 clone. I thought it was cool that they worked in so many pop culture references into it along with real 80's songs. There were a lot of direct Lord of the Rings references. The similarities to Stephen King's "IT" are undeniable.

Did anyone pick up on the kid pausing when he used the word "it" in a sentence during their D&D game?
I noticed this both at the beginning of episode 1 and during the game they played during the last episode.

The creators also drew heavily from E.T., the Goonies, It, Poltergeist. The creators must have been big fans of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

Also,
the "upside down" dimension plot line was very similar to a scene in Dean Koontz's novel, "Seize the Night."

So what's it about? It seems like a cross bread of Close Encounters and the show Under The Dome or something. Toss in The Abyss? LOL I say that because of kid in a water space suit scene.

I binge watched the series over the past two nights with the kids. They loved it. The story is a mash-up of horror-suspense-sci-fi movies and novels that were popular during the 80's. There are a lot of cultural references which is really cool.

Finished it this afternoon. Good show, pretty well done. Acting was a bit...less than great in a couple of scenes...but overall...well done.

I like how they left some things open for the possibility of future episodes.

Like the sheriff putting eggos and food in the box in the woods...makes me think he knows 11 is still alive and out there somewhere...and Will, spitting out the "worm" and seeing "The upside down" for that brief moment in the bathroom.

This season might be over...for now, but it ain't over.

I think rather than explode it and destroy herself, she teleported them both to the other world and is keeping him there. At some point the sheriff figured this out, or she contacted him, and he leaves her treats that she occasionally comes and gets.

Honestly it's a great X-Files way to end it. They did the same thing in many of their monster of the week episodes.

I think she killed it because it was shown being ripped apart into pieces by her psychic energy right before they both disappeared. She is definitely in the other dimension but I'm certain that the predator was killed.

If they do bring the show back I think it will be an entirely new story line, similar to what the x-files or twilight zone would have done. No more predators from the other dimension.

Agreed.
It's dead. Also pretty sure Eleven's alive because the box was empty when the sheriff opened it, and it's probably not the first time he put stuff into it, so somebody's been taking from the box.

I don't know. Remember that
the missing kid coughed up a parasite that then crawled down the drain. And also there was the parasite in his mouth like Alien when he was still in the upside-down. So since he wasn't the only victim, there are probably other baby predators.

About halfway through. Pretty good. Very King, Koontz and Spielberg.

Spot on!

I just watched all eight episodes between last night and today.

Holy hell, damn good show! I was absolutely hooked.

And yup, it's like all the best 80s themes rolled into one.

The first time I saw the title card, I almost groaned. But, after one episode, it fit perfectly, and I grew in love with the title card and theme.

Phenomenal show! 7/5

They way it ended, it definitely could be considered a classic ending in a lot of works in this genre: just enough to tantalize the mind, but overall, the main threads were closed up wonderfully.

I almost feel like begging for a second season picking where this one left off, but I have a feeling, taking the show title, this will shape up into being one of those shows that, like you said, pick up a new story each time.

If they do, I don't know, it'll be hard to top this season in my eyes. The story was fantastic through and through. I do hope, if they go this route, they keep the 80s theme with similar story lines seemingly ripped right out of the 70s and 80s.
