cats are so cute. They will do a good job at eating vermin also. I have a stray black kitty that sleeps on my front porch.
D:my one neighbor has like 10 cats at his house, all outside. started out by people dropping off strays. then they breed. problem is, his wife feeds them so they stick around.
my dog chases them every chance he gets. he even barks at them even if they are like 100 yards away.
i'm trying to figure out a way to contain the cat/kitten explosion happening around my neighborhood right now.
i know if i trap them and try to give them to animal control they'll laugh in my face and turn me away. or ask me to pay them a fee to take the cat, like when i found a stray dog last year wandering the streets.
can't really commit a kitty 187 so then I ask you me fellow home owners, what are my options?
i don't really hate cats, but i don't like them either. i'm sick of washing my car and then the next morning i see paw prints all over my hood. pisses me the hell off.
I'll take the cats off your hands for $40 each (you pay me, not I pay you).
Also, regarding those spay/neuter programs. It's nearly pointless (correct me if I'm wrong) to waste money on neutering, unless it makes the males less likely to spray their urine to mark their territory. One male cat can service dozens of females. I.e., on my farm, I only need 1 male goat for 50 female goats. My brother raises beef cattle. He only has one bull, which takes care of a few dozen females. A program that neuters male cats fails as soon as it misses just one male; and there are plenty of homeowners who let their male cats outside who will gladly take care of those females in heat. I'm guessing that people think, "hey, there are 24 females and 24 males; 23 of those males are neutered, therefore only 1 female cat can get pregnant. Reality is, all 24 of those female cats are going to have kittens that all have the same father. Thus, a waste of money for the expense of neutering.
Also, mail the female cats to Red Squirrel - they're better mousers than male cats.
You should complain to your mayor and council person.
Animal control will just take them and gas them.
Are you serious in this?

i am very serious. what are my other options? animal control told me i can't trap them myself as i might trap a possum or racoon or some other animal instead of cats.
she said i can buy some spray or some such crap to keep them off my property, but i have a huge yard and drive way that's shared between myself and my neighbor so the logistics of this can get a bit tricky. the yard is shared for parking purposes only so it's not like there's a fence separating properties.
Yep. They directed me to animal control, which told me to go sit and spin.
Obligatory: Have you tried this yet?

I don't think they're sick, particularly if they euthenize the cats humanely. The harsh reality is that there is an overpopulation of feral cats in some areas that needs to be remedied. The cats are not friendly, and are just as wild as other small animals like possums.i honestly can say that after reading through this thread, some of you people are some sick MF'ers. LOL. Trapping and killing cats. I joke, but I grew up partially in Jersey but my parents from South Carolina so every summer i spent down there was with either a shit load of kittens or a shit load of puppies. I was even temped to adopt one of the cats that came up to me one night looking desperate. Kinda broke my heart for some reason. But I still want them gone from my backyard.
