Streaming media from PC to PC over the internet, not LAN.

Recently I installed Qloud Server on my Media Server at home and now I am able to stream video, music and pictures to my Android phone from anywhere. I like that fact that Qloud Server transcodes the media to reduce file size. This got me thinking... I would like to be able to stream video content to my laptop as well over the internet, not just the local network. Does anybody know of software that is able to stream media from one PC to another over the internet the way Qloud Server does?

I believe Plex will do this, but I've not tried it personally yet.

Some of that depends on your Internet access. If cable, then parallel streaming of data by multiple computers will share bandwidth. In theory, that makes it slower than streaming to a single computer linked via the same cable account. If your access is DSL, then you don't share bandwidth.

After doing a some research on this I found out that Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7 has this capability. After port forwarding a few ports and linking up my Windows Live ID with my User Account I was able to stream media via WMP over the Internet and my LAN. Downside is that you have to have Windows 7 and WMP 12 to do this.

Corkyg, I really don't understand what you are trying to say here but I don't believe it's relevant to my question. I am looking for "Software" that can act as a server to stream media over the internet. Why would I parallel stream anything from multiple computers? Quality of the media streamed is limited to you upload bandwidth from your ISP. Yes cable can slow down during peak times but generally the upload rate you get form a Cable connection is 3 to 5 times faster than DSL so I doesn't really matter. It's pretty simple what I am trying to accomplish here and requires a simple answer, not an over complicated reply that makes no sense or isn't relevant to the question. This probably explains your ridiculously high number of posts on this forum. You've averaged 4.79 posts per day over the past 12 years. Yes, I just took the time to calculate that just to prove a point. I guess, what can you expect from a guy that defrags his hard drives every day as a morning ritual. That says to me that you want to stream data from machine A to Machine B over the Internet rather than directly machine to machine. I guess I read it wrong. Happy streaming!

Remote Potato might work for you as well. Same with Plex as Impuls said above.
