When I use a 3 way splitter, my cable modem isn't happy. I have to keep the cable modem on the same line as my TV because the TV is located (roughly) in the middle of the apartment and the signal gets too weak if it originates at one end of the apartment. So I split the coax 1>2 and send one the the cable modem and the other to the TV directly.

I bought a Tivo on ebay (series2 with lifetime sub) to record the analog cable that I want recorded. I'd like to feed it coax from a different room, but then I'm stuck trying to figure out how to best get its recorded content to my TV. I have a PS3/Wii/PS2 connected to the TV, and I'm thinking the PS3 is my best bet. What I'd like to do is effectively stream from the Tivo to the PS3. Kind of like make the PS3 into a Tivo "extender." I don't care if the signals have to be transcoded on the fly by my computer; I just want to locate the recordings and the interface at two different physical locations. I've looked at kmttg and it didn't seem to do exactly what I want...

Ideas?

Get a cable signal amplifier. Do a 1<2 split, connect one to the cable modem, then the other to the amplifier then the output of the amplifier to another 1<2 splitter, and connect both your TV and TIVO... done...

For reference, the reason why I said to not use an amplified splitter is because most cable modems do not do well with an amplifier in their connection path, since the 2 way communications tend to get blocked or only one direction is amplified and the other is not, and then signal to noise is lowered.

I'm confused...sounds like you already have a coax cable running to the TV. Unplug the coax from the tv and plug it into the tivo, then run the RCA cables from the tivo to the tv.

Tversity will do this. It shows up on the PS3. However setting up Tversity such that the transcoding happens to a PS3 friendly format is fairly involved. I can't make it work myself (machine = too slow - Xeon 2.4ghz netburst era with 1.5GBRAM) , but its totally doable. You would not get "record on Tivo, available on PS3", you would need to either automate or manually transfer the file off the Tivo into a folder that Tversity understands and serves.

You could also do some sort of automated TTG transfer, feed into DirectShowDump, then right into the folder.

Damn. The record on Tivo/available on PS3 would be ideal. I got rid of my desktop and am now using a laptop with an 80 GB SSD, so I don't really want to store any media on it. I figure a 1.4 GHz C2D should be sufficient to transcode on the fly.

The signal amplifier and the coax->tivo->rca tv would work too, but I'd like to keep the actual Tivo in another room because my TV cabinet isn't well ventilated. If the Tivo is running 24/7 and that was all I had in the cabinet, I'd probably be okay. But I want to be able to use my PS3 or other consoles without having to worry about heat.
