which version of the game has higher player base? ps3 or xbox 360?

also does the ps3/psn player pool combine all regions (ie US+Japan+Europe)? i know the ps3 version outsold the 360 version 2 to 1 in japan, but how is it doing in the US?

Do you have friends who also want the game? Do you have a stick to play with? If you don't have a stick, the PS3 pad is generally considered far superior to the 360 pad, though the 360 pad isn't so bad for this game.

The player base for either system will be quite large. PS3 has a language preference for searching online, so I imagine Japanese language preference usually means playing someone in Japan, but you won't have problems with either system finding people to play with.

Can you not save custom button configs? Gotta change it every time I want to play? I set it up earlier and, playing again now, the custom setting isn't how i left it. What a pain

Loving the game so far, but I'm wondering if unlocks etc. are tied to my LIVE account or the HD? Right now I'm playing on my sister's 360 but I've got a Jasper Arcade unit still in the box that I'll be using when I move into a new place. I unlocked everybody except Gouken/Seth so far, and I'm really not feeling like doing that all over again. I suppose I could borrow a memory card unit to transfer the save if I need to.

I'm thinking about signing up for the Gamestop tourny on Saturday. Not sure why, seems like a waste to drive 15 minutes to lose in my first match, but it might be fun. Then again, I'd have to hang out around a ton of bon-a-fide nerds by myself.

If nothing else, go to see the higher-caliber players and try to get some good impressions. See what works and doesn't in real life, etc.

Anyone play using the VF5 arcade stick? How well does it work? Im really liking this game a lot and kinda want a stick now, and for $40 it's about my price range. Any input?

Finally receiving mine tomorrow but I still don't know when Capcom is sending my stick. Still on backorder. I guess I will use the pad in the meantime.

Does anyone know why the Hori for the 360 is so much more expensive than the PS3? After buying that, the Cthulu, and the extra sacrificial joystick from Game Stock (for the board), you are looking at practically TE prices.

I suck online. That's what happens from growing up without human competition. Oh well. Just gotta play enough and the game slows down.

online has been pretty smooth as long as the person has 4 bars. 3 bars can be a bit iffy, but 4 is as flawless as arcade play.

Out of the 150 matches I've played, More than 50% were Ken shoryuken spammers. Jesus these people need to go into the challenge mode and at least learn one basic combo.

Well, I finally got a chance to play for about 25 min last night, just decided to go through the regular single player mode with the old standby Ryu. Fearing the SSF2HDR AI cheese, I put it on "easy." Didn't lose any matches until Sagat, who proceeded to kick my ass many times over. Pretty much any time he could, he would combo into his ultra or juggle me in to it. If I even thought of taking it to the air and his ultra meter was full, I was getting hit by it. The comp was actually pretty good about using EX fireballs whenever we got in to fireball showdowns as well. As for Seth, I beat him on the first try but he was a lot tougher in the second round... so far so good, looking forward to getting some time in with this game this weekend

So here's a question. I started doing the challenges with Ryu last night, and was at the very beginning of the 3rd challenge where I'm guessing it wants you to do an EX focus attack. I'm still not 100% sure what that is, but the instructions say to HK, then what I'm assuming to be is to cancel into a focus attack. I could not figure out how to do it or what it wanted me to do. I'd try a heavy kick and then pressing MK+MP, but could never time it to where the challenge would be satisfied.

What do I need to do here?

that one was a jumping roundhouse to focus for me to clear

i usually look at those as easy wins

i honestly get more intimidated in a match when I see someones pick Dan than I do when people pick Ken, because that usually means they know what they are doing using that guy.

yah some of the challenges and what not are best done when in the corner, i've noticed that for a few of them.

and most of the level 5 challenges, while they SEEM very easy, are just the opposite, and I've noticed a lot of those are best done when NOT right next to your opponent but rather when there is some kind of space between you two.

dan is awesome, the way they did his moves to make him feminine is hilarious.
i'm having a pretty rough time trying to beat people with him, seems everyone else's
moves have priority over dans.

I've played a few online matches and I haven't seen any Ken Shoryu spammers when I've played. Won a few, lost a few. Overall just trying to knock off the rust and play better myself. I used to be halfway decent as their used to be a couple of good arcades in the area. Now the arcades have gone the way of the dodo and while I have friends that play video games none are really into fighters.
