Yeah that happened to me, too. I beat Gouken, and then it didn't say anything about unlocking him. I was like... what?

I'm quoting myself to say that I stopped my first Akuma ultra online a few matches ago. But I got it the cheap way, as I was throwing a fireball as he started it, so it was an easy stop . But I was ready for it this time.

I've been using Sakura non-stop online, and I feel like I'm getting much, much better. I've raised my win percentage to over 29% with right around 50 matches played. I came about 5% of an opponent's health bar of getting my 3-win streak achievement. I'm also getting MUCH better dodging ultras as I learn each characters specific ones. I learned quickly that with Bison's, block high, block high, then immediately block low. That slide at the end would get me every time.

Also, is there a priority system for ultra versus ultra, or is it whomever's hits first? I started my ultra, and as soon as she was getting started, I was fighting a Ken who started his ultra. Even though I called mine first, I guess his hit first, so he got all of his hits and the win unfortunately.

Sometimes I hate when I get my ultra, because it's hard not to become consumed by trying to time it and execute it. It's much harder to execute an ultra on the d-pad in the heat of battle. I also need to start letting my super bar fill up, because I constantly use EX attacks, which are great and all, but Sakura's super is actually pretty nice, hits low first and takes off a good chunk of health.

Haha, I said earlier I wasn't going to unlock Akuma, Gouken, or Seth because Seth pissed me off so much. But I've gotten so decent with Sakura that getting Akuma was a piece of cake. I even had to let the computer hit me a little bit so I could pull off an ultra for the requirement. I even perfected Seth at the end .

I'll probably try to take out Gouken at some point this weekend just because I know I'll be able to. If I reach Gouken and then lose, will it let me fight him again and unlock him? It would suck getting all that way having no losses, a few perfects and ultra finishes, then lose.

From what I remember, there certain ultras do have priority over the other. I can't remember which video I watched that makes me think that though.

The simplest and most effective way to get around Akuma's Ultra AKA Rage of the Demon is to just jump over it. If your knocked down and Akuma charges towards you with his Ultra JUST JUMP OVER AKUMA.

when i'm playing someone who i can tell just is not that great, as soon as they get their ultra i start to keep a distance, because 75% or so of the time, these people try to use their ultras as soon as possible. then they use it and waste it, and i go to town on them.

Just sweep them, rush them down and zone a low jab, then FADC backwards to make them miss on their Ultra and punish. Noobs always panic when they're low on health, and when they're getting pressured they try to toss out a Hail Mary Ultra - use it to your advantage

I have the TE stick and this is my first time using a stick, ever. Is the balltop supposed to spin freely?

Is the actual case that the game is held in any different than the standard edition? I got mine yesterday but haven't opened it yet.

I have the 360 CE, and no, the case isn't any different. They just package the regular edition into the CE box.

no way to block akumas ultra or super.

you have to avoid or counter it. i've noticed that jumping back and using a fierce kick as you are landing is probably the best way to avoid it, unless you want to try and counter it.

it is pretty cheap that you can time the ultra and do it as someone is getting up to make avoiding it impossible, however there is still like a frame or few that you can counter it.

the problem is the timing of countering it is tough because the camera angle changes when it begins and can throw you off.

So the available frame to counter is right after the animation finishes and the camera is swinging back around? So I'd basically be able to hold up+back and mash on the kick button and possibly get lucky?

While I like the ultras, they do suck sometimes. But like you said, every now and then you avoid one and it leaves them wide open.

I was playing a Chun Li last night in the 3rd round, and they started her ultra which I was able to jump over as she was charging. Well, Chun Li keep kicking and moving across the screen, which I didn't know, and kept chasing her with kicks because I didn't know she'd keep moving. I played another Chun Li this afternoon, and avoided the ultra again, but this time I just followed her across the screen, and as was able to land a nice dragon punch as she was finishing up.

well by "counter" i was referring to say, doing a dragon punch as Akuma slides as you.

the "frame" stuff I was talking about is if the opponent does the Ultra as you are getting off the ground, so they time it perfectly so Akuma is sliding right next to you right as you are getting up.

at that point is when you have a VERY short window of opportunity to do a dragon punch (or the like) to counter it, however it seems virtually unblockable if you are in that situtation.

i've noticed though a lot when I am doing my ultra as akuma, that most of the time if the enemy is standing, they will jump back as I'm approaching them and press fierce kick as they are landing, and usually i'm close enough to where the fierce kick hits me.

even if the jump + FK misses (because akuma hasn't slid close enough to them), i've seen a bunch of people immediately sweep, and that also has hit me before.

The Demon setup on wakeup is not unavoidable. Don't try to Dragon punch it ever, because almost all DPs take 4-5 frames to startup AND they are not throw invulnerable. Really the safest thing to do if you think it will hit you on your wakeup is to jump, because jump is throw invulnerable from frame 1. I think you can counter it with Gief's ultra, but I'm not sure if Akuma is throw invulnerable during Demon. Also with Abel, if hes coming at you, if you're really good at timing, you can do his command throw and though it doesn't have startup throw invulnerability, it has it after the first couple frames so it's hard to time but it's something you can do.

Playing the computer makes me suck, so I'm gonna try to get out of playing the computer ASAP (must unlock Seth). IT seems like the arcade mode "easiest" difficulty fluctuates between super easy and well... not. Sometimes Seth is hard no matter how many times you die. Other times he's easy. I think it's best if you want to just unlock everything to make sure all the battles are easy. If they seem harder than they should (ie, people are doing Ultras on you)... maybe just die and start over.

Alright, I unlocked everybody so far except Seth. In all honesty he won't be too hard to unlock though now that I have everybody else.

Just got SF4 today, and pre-ordered the TE stick

Guys, I read something about a "Counter Throw", what is it and how do you do one?

Assuming you're talking about a tech, it's just trying to throw when your opponent throws you, thus negating the throw. You just have to learn when someone might try to throw (whiff air attack, after a block string, feints).

My PS3 CE actually says "Collector's Edition" on the SFIV case.

Only took me forever but I realized I need to go fast enough where I feel like my stick will break! haha.

What stick do you have? You may know this already, but if you have a stick, it's important to NOT ride the gate. Only go far enough so that the direction registers. Riding the gate just slows you down. Extra distance you have to travel.

HRAP3. And yea, I realize that. I gotta get better with it in that respect. I notice myself riding it way tooo much.

Have you modded it in any way? The JLF Ultimate Mod is a way to shorten the throw and reduce the deadzone. I did it and it's been very helpful. I also have a HRAP3.

Oh god, just did this and it feels so great now. I also stripped a screw taking out the JLF.. oh what a bitch that was to remove. Had to bust out the Dremel and hack at it. lol

Just played like 12 matches online and only won 2 of them. I feel like everyone will keep getting better online, while the sucky people quit playing, and it will just keep getting harder and harder to win. I've played the hell out of Sakura, I might start using someone else as well.

I've played 3 and won 1 I see what you mean though and that may be the case, but that kinda happens with almost any popular online game. Try Akuma if you have unlocked him. He has a similar move set except for his ultra. Probably my favorite character right now.

i finished all of the trial challenges on normal today.

after doign so, i really REALLY do not like Gen. I am never goign to use that guy.

Rufus also is pretty lame and I doubt i will ever use im.

I did however get kind of intrigued to play as El Fuerte now. He plays so different than any other street fighter i've ever played with.

There are some pretty tough challenges on there. i really don't tihnk I will be able to complete all of the hard trial challenges though.

EDIT: okay it doesn't look as cool as I was hoping. But it's unique clothes I guess.
