i personally think the whole tier thing is absolutely pointless, so using that to base your decisin on who's good or not is kinda dumb imo.

If you are playing Vega and you play against Sagat and you do Vega's rolling punch at the exact same time someone playing Sagat does his flying knee, you get hit for more dmg then Sagat would have taken if you had hit him and you have less health. Sagat's knee has priority, he has more health and he hits harder.

Ultimately skill is going to be a much larger factor, but the game mechanics are built in such a way that certain characters are simply better then others.

Damn, he's got Akuma dialed in. I don't think I would even be able to land a hit on somebody that good, or if I did, he'd call me a "scrub".

And he's a different sort of Akuma player - he's not total keep away, spamming fireballs and air fireballs. he's more rushdown at times and I like it. His combos are beautiful, even if they are cookie cutter.

He is very good at countering and chipping when needed, but definitely tries to rushdown when he can. I love watching him play. The threat of the air hadoken/ex air hadoken is great against other fireball users, keeps them from just spamming FBs all day.

The combo in to his Tatsumaki followed by a SRK, cancelled in to a red fireball had my jaw dropping...

Yea that was a pretty nice combo. The C. Lk into LK hurricane into HP shoyruken is pretty simple though. Glad they kept that from SF 3.

Man got pwned bad today in Network mode. Opponent got a perfect!

Win/death ratio about 50% but thats because I played some people who were even more scrubs than me - low heavy kick FTW!

Haha, I've learned quickly to block that whenever I can (and to use it myself).

Man, I finally had a chance to get some play time in and it was a blast. I played a 4000+ BP Zangief (I'm at 1600 BP) that was straight up vicious - he had his black overall costume too. Anyone know if grades affect the amount of BP you get?

C. Viper is my favorite character in SF4 but I don't have the time right now to spend learning her. It is all super jump cancel combos and stuff. She plays so differently. I like to play around with her in non ranked though.

For those of you who own both an XBOX 360 and a PS3, is there really any difference between SF IV on the consoles? I have both, and I'm having trouble deciding which console to buy it for. Each console has its pros and cons, but if the version of the game is inferior on one, that would be a big difference.

Please don't turn this question into an XBOX/PS3 flame-fest. Also, please don't comment if you "read on a forum somewhere..." or "my buddy tells me..." I'd like to know from folks who have experienced SF IV first-hand on both consoles.

I guess for me, I'm leaning towards the PS3, since the DualShock 3 D-pad is way better than the 360 D-pad, and the PS3 has way more HDD space (so installing/DLC wouldn't be a problem). If I got it on the 360, I'd pretty much have to micro-manage my HDD space, and I'd be forced to wait until SF IV fightpads were available since the D-pad on the 360 controller is such junk. However, if one version of the game had a fatal flaw as opposed to the other, that would make my decision a whole lot easier!

Thanks!

i have it for both.

the graphics and gameplay is IDENTICAL. i can't even tell it doesnt have AA on PS3. if you had them side by side i would not be able to tell any difference.

on the ps3 however the load time varies.

you can install it to the PS3 hard drive, and that cuts load times to be faster than the xbox360 ones, however, if you have it installed, and play online against someone who DOESNT, it takes longer to load than the xbox360 one does.

the installation is not thrown at the user either, it's kind of buried 2 menus deep in the options menu so i don't know if many people even know about it. i would not have known there was installation if i didn't look up game stuff online on daily basis.

and i use the same exact joystick on xbox360 and ps3 to play, so i can't really comment on the controls here. i will say however, i was doing trainnig mode yetserday and trying to do some advanced akuma combos, and i could pull them off easier on ps3 over 360.

why? i have no idea why, it could have just been my timing and stuff was off when playing 360 and on while playing ps3, but i just observed that yeseterday when playing.

The only difference is the controllers. XBL seems a little better than PSN for for online but it is probably negligible.

Storage space shouldn't be a concern because the DLC has been relatively small (124kb) to this point as it has consisted of only costumes. I doubt it would ever get large enough to cause a problem.

Hmm I always found SF2 Turbo really fun back in the day... should I give this a buy?

EDIT:

For my purchasing, I'm a bit conflicted... I want the Ryu action figure thingy (PS3 only) but would rather buy it on the 360, 'cause all of my amigos have one.

Might want to consider just getting the regular version for the 360, then find a better sculpted stand-alone Ryu figure somewhere else for separate purchase.

Thanks for the info!

I had heard that on the PS3 you can play against folks from the USA and Japan, but on the 360, it is limited to your specific region. Is that true?

I think all PS3 games should ask you at the beginning if you want to do an optional install to improve speeds. But hey, they just write it for the 360 and then port it to the PS3, so

You make is sound as if the 360 is the bad guy when it's the PS3's blu-ray drive speed to blame.

Which makes me wonder why he asked 360 vs. PS3 in the first place, as he pretty much had made up his mind already.

no you can play any region on the 360.

nope, you have to go into the options menu to install it.

there was an auto-update right off the bat, which is what you may be thinking of.

it also asked you when you start arcade mode if you want to turn on the feature where people can interrupt you for online play while you are playing single player arcade mode.

Is what I said untrue? They write for the 360 then use middleware to port it to the PS3. The game cannot assume there is a hard drive there, because of Microsoft's decision to not include a hard drive in the 360. And yes, the PS3 Blu-ray drive is slow.

I just wanted to make sure in this process that the PS3 version didn't get the shaft. Honestly, I would rather have it on the 360, because the whole Live integration is so much better than PSN. But, there are too many "ifs" with the 360, and other things I would need to buy to make the experience "complete".

gorcorps, you assume too much. You're reading things that are simply not there. I wanted people who have experienced both to give me their impressions of whether one version or another was done sloppily. It happens all the time. Like I said in my post, I was torn between which one to get, and I wanted to make sure there was no technical deficiency in one version or the other.

Cool...thanks for the info!

So you play folks from around the world by default? Wow, no wonder online play is so tough. Gamers in Japan would kick our butts in fighting games, since they are huge over there. Did SF IV even get an arcade release in the USA? Are there still real arcades in the US? Heh...

Some machines were shipped over here, but not many. Most are on the west coast from what I've read.
