I had heard that on the PS3 you can play against folks from the USA and Japan, but on the 360, it is limited to your specific region. Is that true?

I think all PS3 games should ask you at the beginning if you want to do an optional install to improve speeds. But hey, they just write it for the 360 and then port it to the PS3, so

no you can play any region on the 360.

nope, you have to go into the options menu to install it.

there was an auto-update right off the bat, which is what you may be thinking of.

it also asked you when you start arcade mode if you want to turn on the feature where people can interrupt you for online play while you are playing single player arcade mode.

Yeah, I remember the update (which was pretty frustrating to download, actually - it took me at least 5 tries!) but I don't remember digging through the menus to download... hmm, maybe I just have a bad memory

You make is sound as if the 360 is the bad guy when it's the PS3's blu-ray drive speed to blame.

Is what I said untrue? They write for the 360 then use middleware to port it to the PS3. The game cannot assume there is a hard drive there, because of Microsoft's decision to not include a hard drive in the 360. And yes, the PS3 Blu-ray drive is slow.

I just wanted to make sure in this process that the PS3 version didn't get the shaft. Honestly, I would rather have it on the 360, because the whole Live integration is so much better than PSN. But, there are too many "ifs" with the 360, and other things I would need to buy to make the experience "complete".

gorcorps, you assume too much. You're reading things that are simply not there. I wanted people who have experienced both to give me their impressions of whether one version or another was done sloppily. It happens all the time. Like I said in my post, I was torn between which one to get, and I wanted to make sure there was no technical deficiency in one version or the other.

Reading things that aren't there? Here's part of your post buddy, and read it carefully:
I guess for me, I'm leaning towards the PS3, since the DualShock 3 D-pad is way better than the 360 D-pad, and the PS3 has way more HDD space (so installing/DLC wouldn't be a problem). If I got it on the 360, I'd pretty much have to micro-manage my HDD space, and I'd be forced to wait until SF IV fightpads were available since the D-pad on the 360 controller is such junk.

You were already favoring the PS3, you said so yourself. I wasn't reading things that weren't there, I was just reading.

As a bit of a disclaimer, I don't know how readily available the figures are, but I know some new ones were made for the SF4 release. Not sure if you'd be able to walk into Walmart or Toys-R-Us and find them.

Yes, I am favoring the PS3 version, but I would also prefer the XBOX 360 version because Live is better than PSN, in my opinion. I was just asking for the opinions of folks who had played both so they could point out if there are fatal flaws in either version that would hamper that experience.

What does it matter to you? That I favor one version over another? It seems like a big deal to you. I was just asking for experiences of people with the different versions so I could better make my decision. I have clearly stated that I just want to know if each version is more or less similar so I can go on making my decision. The poster before you said I was "Making the 360 out to be the bad guy", and apparently that set you off. Were you just looking for a fight? I mean, really. This is one of the reasons why I avoid the forums. People like you looking to instigate when I just asked a simple question.

Read my posts again. I mean actually read them, instead of looking for things you can pick apart and start a fight with. I clearly stated that I have both a PS3 and an XBOX 360, and that there are good things and bad things that I see with each console. I am leaning towards the PS3 version of SF IV because in my opinion, it has more good than bad. Somehow that offended you, and I am so sorry that my console preference is so offensive to you! (not really)

PS - I actually own more games for my 360 than my PS3. Does that make you happier? Good grief...

When I picked up the game on Sunday at Best Buy, there were a few CE's for 360 there. Didn't look at the PS3 section, since I don't have a PS3.

I have the xbox 360 version at my house. Through my network with all my ports forwarded correctly, I can find ranked matches and player matches pretty much anytime of the day in under a minute. Usually a refresh will show a list of 2-3 people with 4 bars, and the rest of the list filled up with people with 3 bars. Quick match doesn't work for crap and I get people with no bars, but I only use custom match anyway. The average time in between ranked matches is about 1 minute.

On my friends PS3, he lives next door to me on the same time warner cable company. With all 5 of his PSN ports forwarded correctly as well. The time between ranked matches takes him about 3 minutes. Usually a list refresh will only show 3-4 games at most and the most he gets is 3 bars with the very occasional occurrence of someone with 4 bars. Another odd thing is that he's often gets the "unable to join game" error or the games fill up before he can join. He's often forced into just playing arcade mode with request on so people with 1-2 bars challenge him.

Anyone else with PSN able to give me some feedback? I'd like to see if he can get some more favorable results with online matching with random people.

Does the manual tell you what ports to forward?

Doubtful, since this would be for XBOX Live as a whole. A quick google search would probably tell you which ports.

What do you mean you don't see them? On the character select screen, after you initially choose a fighter, it'll give you choices of costume, color, personal action, and something else. Just change the costume.

EDIT: nevermind. apparently the costumes are available for only 4 characters. and its the 4 characters I never use. what a waste of $3.99 that was

My goal is to get to 1,500 battle points by Monday. I've been getting a little better and I finally got to 900. Not good by any means but I have improved which is really what matters to me. As long as I see improvememnt it's all good.

Weird thing every other day I play there are tons of Kens but last night I played 6 matches. 5 Akumas and a Vega.

I've found that I'm learning people's moves with Akuma pretty well, but anytime I face a decent Vega with my Sakura, I'm not quick enough to block/counter all those quick jumps and moves.

As far as battle points, I think I'm currently sitting at 281BP, which is my all-time high . I usually beat a couple people in a row to get up towards 250-300BP, then I'll lose 5 or 6 in a row and get back down to very low double digits. A couple of times I've went all the way back down to 0.

well last night i had an off night

i was playing ranked matches and lost like 4 in a row and ropped like 300bp points just for that.

the frustrating part was that the people i lost to i could have easily beat i was just off my game. i think it is because i'm trying to practice and land some combos w/akuma and trying to use the focus attack more, and I was getting flustered and just missing most of my stuff.

i don't know wtf was going on, it was just one of those off nights heh.

EDIT:

also one thing that i just do not understand...

i go into some player matches, beat the guy 2 times, and they quit. that seems to happn most of the time. i rarely get into good matches w/people where i can keep playing like 10+ matches in a row.

i did have this one good set of like 10 matches last night which was fun, but most times its like i win once or twice and then the person quits.

personally, if someone is kicking my ass, i want to continue to play them to try and figure out how to beat them. it is like people don't understand that they won't get better by playing people they can easily beat.

Yeah it seems real easy to have an off night in SF4. The timing is so stict that if I'm a little off everything goes bad. I'll practice Sagat's j.hk->c.mk->Tigerknee->super and get it so I can do it everytime. Come back next day and have to practice it for 30 minutes before I can even do it once.

I need to add you for some player matches.

I hope to see you guys on this weekend. Looking forward to more matches with PeritusONE too.

I honestly don't know why I'd want any other alternate costume pack after the femme fatale one.

what version has more people online or is it relatively the same? Since I can't find a joystick for either version I figure I'll get the ps3 version and atleast play with the dpad. I tried the 360 version with the dpad and stick and its a bit hard and loose.

I hopped online tonight to play a couple of matches, since I hadn't been on in a day or two. Lost the first 3 matches, and decided that I was going to play one more. I won it, and it's always my policy to keep playing until I lose just incase I can get that 3 ranked win achievement. Well, I lost the next one, and for some reason, I told myself just one more. I somehow managed to go on a tear and win my next 5 matches!! So I got two achievements instead of one (never thought I'd ever have a shot at get the 5 win streak). I also got my BP all the way up to 613 before losing my final match of the night to a really low ranked Sagat, who was much better than his BP of around 100 suggested. He zoned the shit out of me and blocked when needed. So I ended the night at 533BP, but much, much better than my previous high of 291BP before I started playing tonight .

Online play is quite lame. Serious lagfest with ragequitters and people that message you nasty things when you win.

I got about 2400BP in a day, I don't think it's worth it to play online anymore lol
