But I can't wait until I find the damn TE in stock! Would it really cost that much to upgrade a few buttons and joystick?

yeah, i don't know many retailers in the US for buttons, the only one I deal with is lizard lick. Buttons are 2.95 each and you need at least 6, and the stick is $25. factor in shipping and it's close to $50 for the buttons + stick.

You might actually be just fine with the SE stock parts if you haven't played on sanwa parts before, but in my case I played in the arcades a lot on sanwa parts, and I had a hard time adjusting to the SE when i first got it.

I played a lot in the arcades (Vs. series) back when I was 14-15 (24 now =(), so this game style is pretty new to me (hardly played SF3). My timing for moves is all screwed up and I keep thinking I could juggle people as long as they're not on the ground. I'm sure if the SE is decent enough I'd be fine and would probably start off with upgrading the joystick when I feel the need.

Okay, so I went to Fry's and they had boxes upon boxes of the TE stick on their shelves (PS3..). I picked up an SE stick and tried it out at home. Sadly to say, there was something wrong with it because it just really didn't feel right. For starters. It has a square box that the stick can move in. If I put the stick in the upper right corner of the box, I will jump diagonally right. BUT, if I do the same in the left box, most of the time it won't do jack except make my guy walk backwards. I have to move it up to the left just before the corner. Also, I can never seem to block anything (i get walloped compared to using the controller, but maybe it was just me). Maybe I'm just this bad, I always thought I was at least semi decent in street fighter games. I did the challenges for ryu and got up to the level where I have to jump hard kick, crouch hard punch, haduken and ex cancel into a focus attack. I tried for hours and just couldn't be consistent in being able to haduken after I canceled..........thinking about returning the stick, selling the game and just calling it quits =(. Something about getting completely owned ALL the time so bad that you can hardly apply the basic combos that you learned because you're not consistent enough but on top of that, the person you're playing against already has their shit dialed in so they just toy with you. I just find myself cursing at the screen way too much...and I do that enough at work.

Damn, I wish I had checked my Fry's...oh well, Gamestop already sent me a shipping confirmation (so much for 5-10 day processing), and I'll get my stick on Monday. I'll be in the midst of moving to a house all week (whoo hoo, more room!), but everybody on PS3, make sure you add me for some easy noob stomping. I'll be ready to play by the weekend.

Let me have some tips from you guys. If I'm Just standing still, I can do the hadukens and shoryukens fine. But once I'm fighting, like I throw a jab or in blocking position, I try to do a shoryuken from that position on the joystick so i move it forward then diagonal to the down position and do a QC....sometimes it'll work and sometimes i'll just get off a single punch....Or it'll do a haduken and vice versa. There are so many times i leave my self open because I think i did a QC but end up doing a shoryuken from a distance.................... FML

the square gate is not good for "fireball" characters. you may want to look into the octogonal restrictor plate for your joystick. instead of hitting 4 corners, you feel it hit all 4 corners + l/r/u/d.

they say the square gate is good for charge characters, but me coming off of happ sticks all my life, the square gate screwed me bad. i play as balrog mainly, and the square gate messed my game up and the octogonal gate fixed my issues big time. probably because 8way is similar to the happ joysticks iv'e used forever which don't have any restrictor gate on em.

Thanks for the info. It's kinda odd that I'd have to go through this much research to relieve frustration for a game. Playing all the people I've played online, I feel like most of them are just using whatever they got and they still pwn me. I'm probably going to exchange the stick (just googled about problems for the SE and there seems to be a QC issue...) and give it another go tonight. If any of you are on and wanna play a few rounds let me know, maybe you can tell me what I'm screwing up. Damn, I should get to work

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOES! My TE stick arrived early but I can't play it since I'm leaving for SF in a few hours!!! I'm so happy that it's here (it's in my lap here at work, people laughed at me ), but tortured that I can't use it.

combofiend is possibly the best player at that tourney hands down, besides valle, and we haven't even seen valle play yet. Crazy!

edit: incredibly hype match last night between the best honda in the USA mike ross and one of the best balrogs keno vs magus and haunts two of the top norcal players.

had some time this weekend and got a chance to get into G2-A. I finished today with a little over 11k points.

since i was borrowing a firewire cable from work i decided to record the replay of mine saved and put it on youtube. the quality actually came out pretty well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cxDVhCYnaI

i made a buncha mistakes in that and had trouble linking some combos, but i still came out on top. the guy i was playing against had absolutely 0 offense. the whole second round i was trying to pull off a TAP that i had charged for a long time. the last round i was pretty much playing the same playstyle as him, just hanging back and being boring, but i got him in the end.

Check it out, it's not working now, but maybe soon. if not it's cause ufrag is a terrible host.

http://ufragtv.com/recorded/video/20990

SBO qualifiers grand finals at Denjin Arcade.

Alex Valle (Ryu) Old school street fighter player showing possibly the best ryu in the USA.
Peter Combofiend Rosas (C. Viper). Right now I would say hands down the absolute best player outside of Japan.

vs.

Ken I (Rufus). One of the best Rufus players in the world
Ed Ma (Akuma). SICKEST AKUMA EVER. He does shit I haven't seen.. even from Japanese Akumas.

some footnotes:

All four of them are among the top 10 players in the USA at the moment. Alex Valle wasn't performing too well most of the tourney and most people thought he was carried by combofiend to the grand finals, but he does some amazing shit during both grand finals sets to prove that he can still hold it down and perform when it counts the absolute most. The ending was absolutely phenomenal.

Hello,

I purchased the the Madcatz SE Fightstick over the weekend, everything is fine except I'm having a difficult time with fireball / shoryuken motion. I don't have problem on the PS3 Controller.

I'm wondering will the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK Drop In Replacement Joystick from Lizard Lick help? I just want to make sure before replacing the stick.

Thanks.

it's most likely the square gate on the joystick. i am not sure which joystick is on that, but if the octogonal gate will fit on it, i'd try that.

otherwise, when you get a new joystick, make sure you get the octogonal gate otherwise you will probably have the same issue you are currently having.

oh and i would not order from lizardlick, that is a crappy ass run business. they open their store for like 2 hours on monday mornings then close it the rest of the week. then it takes them 2-3 weeks to get your order out.

I recently got an SE stick, and it's pretty decent, though my downstairs neighbor has the TE and it is much better in terms of button response. I've heard that the SE version has a cloned version of the Swana joystick, so it's possible to get the swana octogon gate to work with it.

I actually just ordered from Lizard Lick for the JLF-TP-8YT-SK joystick and the octogon gate (I can't get used to the square gate at all). I'll see how long it takes for my order to ship, does anyone know of any alternate site that I can order from that has these parts in stock?

i know the guy who runs the site (not in person but i've talked to him on IRC for over 10 years) and he runs a great operation.

Square gate is fine. It's just a matter of getting used to.

EDIT: Try using a really light touch. Not hitting the restrictor (i.e. not banging the sides) would be a start.
