Street race between a '91 Accord EX and a '88 Tempo!!!

The race took place on De La Verendre boulevard here in Montreal during the day. (Speed limit 70km/h except in front of this big park where its 50km/h).

We actually raced 4 or 5 times. I was in the accord (as a passenger), while a friend of mine was driving the accord and two other friends were in the Tempo. The first few times we raced we were going from stop light to stop light. The tempo (an automatic, the accord was a stick shift) pulled out ahead up to about 30km/h, then we flew by them at the blistering speed of 80km/h, slowing down once we reached 110 . My friends in the tempo assumed they were kicking their ass cause they thought we were racing for acceleration, not from stop light to stop light.
So, we raced one more time. I told my friend how to launch better (by revving up and dropping the clutch instead of starting normally), so we got a much better launch. We noticed the tempo wasn't going very fast. After, we found out the driver forgot to step on the gas! haha.

Well, there you have it. Watch out on the streets, you may be challenged by one of these hot rods next.

<< wtf... ford tempo? >>

I was in that car

the fact that we took off faster than a 92-95 model accord is extremely sad on the Accord's driver's part. The Tempo has something like 90 horsepower where the Accord has something closer to 130 or 140hp. On top of that, the Accord has a standard ("manual") transmission whereas the tempo (1988!!) was automatic.

Sad indeed. Proof that conceited mexicans should not be on the road.

I thought those go-karts were all about "Rally Racing" instead of drag racing. At least that's the story I usually hear.

Man you guys... Are you slow, or don't read, or something... ? Can't you see we don't give a crap about the cars?

The point is, that somebody was actually lame enough to accelerate SLOWER than a freakin tempo, when driving a manual accord! Plus the fact that this person is extremely over-confident and thinks he's "cool" because he wears a black wife-beater, a tattoo and black sunglasses. Oh yeah, and his "turbocharger" by pressing the "cruise-control" button must really work awesomely, too!

<< I don't think that counts as racing. It hardly even counts as speeding. >>

rotf

Actually, it was a 50-zone and they could have reached 110, so yeah I think you could call that speeding.

ROFL yeah. He's like "I love my cruise-control, it accelerates the car so much better".

Still not even highway speeds? WTF are you smoking? Since when is 110 not highway speeds? I don't know about you, but I think we've made it pretty clear that we're in Canada, and here the speed limit on highways is 100 kilometres per hour (km/h). We were in a 50 km/h zone, not on a highway!

How can people be so easily confused...

Eh? 80kmph is highway speed, 100kmph on the queens highways.

well, highway speed here converts to 106kph. And that's jsut the speed limit, normal flow of traffic is about 125kph.

edit: Ok, I'll agree that it WAS speeding...... I'm still not saying it counts as legitimate racing, though

All twinned highways in Alberta have a 110km/h speed limit...so, naturally, everyone does 120km/h...we have good roads here

Ever been to Saskatchewan? You don't want to go over 40km/h on secondary paved roads...

I've been in a lot of Tempos, I didn't think it was possible to be slower than them! They can't exceed 110km/h with the Air conditioning on...I'd of thought the Accord would still be going faster than the Tempo in first gear

Open up a dictionary and look up the definition for "sarcasm" and "satire", jackass. What we did is nothing like FATF style street racing by any means, hell we barely went over the speed limit (btw I was a passenger, I wasn't racing). What kind of little kid ventures out into the middle of a 6 lane avenue where the traffic flow is 80-90km/h anyway?

Actually, the real funny part is that while trying to catch a red light (rare on that street), we were going like 30-40, just like old grandmas. We were driving on the far right and still got tailgated like crazy
