found where the street racing occurs in my city.

Mostly mexicans. several black people, few white guys.

Next time I shall remember to park under a light at the gas station, don't know why I didn't think of this. I was 25 yards from my car and this chubster 17 year old mexican kid is standing about a foot and a half from it with his mexican buddies' beat up old toyota tacoma parked right next to my ride. I was about to go get a drink, looked back, and saw what was going on, so walked back and left.

I also think I will pack next time, and bring several friends. Any other advice?

Indeed steer clear of that stupidity if it's just general street races with random turnouts. Don't know where you are, but in Cali you can be cited just for spectating, and if you're caught participating, you can lose your car.
I used to go when I was in my early 20s, but cops started cracking down on it big time.

Fortunately I decided not to go one week, and saw on the news they blocked off the streets and cited over 100 people. Never went again after that.

Have gone to a couple private meets where they are organized and only a dozen cars or so show, and go some place quiet.

And packing would be retarded, if you get pulled over for racing you're probably going to prison for a while if they search you. They go over your whole car here looking for illegal things such as nitrous.

Maybe you're lucky and live somewhere they just give you a slap on the wrist though, I saw a thread about a couple guys caught racing by a police chopper with the birds view video on youtube, said all he got was a $500 fine which was the max penalty lol, running a red light in Los Angeles will cost you just shy of that.

Hanging around those crowds, getting busted racing is the least of your worries.

Yeah but if you don't go Juan's CRX with a 1992 Accord JDM motor swap and extreme weight reduction in the form of no hood, no paint, and a rotted interior is just pwn everyone yo. Don't forget the stolen Integra GSR wheels and various pepboys accouterments.

I know a few guys here that do that shit all the time here in NY. I like going, but I'd NEVER take my car there. Lot's of kids get too excited when the police show up (or just after a race) that your car is almost guaranteed to take a hit when everyone is racing off.

The best thing that could happen to you is you'd get picked up by the cops. The worst is shanked by gangsters or gangsta wannabe's and slowly bleed to death.
Instant death by runaway car is a toss up, since you will likely not suffer long.

been there done that back in the day
got caught twice when they blocked off the streets
almost got car jacked, nothing but thugs there now.
used to be chill when everyone was cool with eachother
and gangsters were nowhere to be found.

I haven't seen anything good come from semi-organized street racing. Sure, the off the cuff "hey, there's a guy with a nice car, lets play to the next stoplight" bit can be relatively safe and fun. But when it comes to the "lets go here and race" part, you end up with people that have more ego than brains, spectators that don't realize that you need more than 12' to run two cars down a road, nor anyone that has any idea how to handle something when the inevitable happens.

Then you get the whole "cars" handicap thing, did someone jump the start, you were ahead, start from a roll... it just goes from stupid to tedious and dumb. Mix in a few gang members and a liberal dose of stolen parts and trust me, you're better off just flat not being there. Last I checked, California had a law saying that WATCHING a street race was a $500 misdemeanor.

Option B:
Go to your local strip, pay $25 to bracket race. Your handicap is painted on your windshield in the form of a dial-in. The start and finish is timed, you get a slip showing how fast you went and how good (or bad) your reaction time really is. The next time someone starts bench racing, you got proof. The lanes are 60' wide, there is ample runoff, and when the cops do come, they're likely to be bringing their own cars to run down the strip and shake hands rather the cuff them.

Not everyone has a local track.

On a side note, some kid was killed near my house a few years ago street racing. He lost control of his ricer and hit a tree at high speed. He died at the scene. His family still goes and puts flowers near that tree and the tree still bears the scars from the accident.
