strengthening wrists without damaging them

My one wrist is especially an issue. I can't do a single pushup without getting pain. I'm pretty sure it's a combination of an injury years ago (yay arm wrestling), and overuse through hours and hours at the computer over the years.

Any advice? It keeps me from doing basic exercise like the aforementioned pushups, let alone pullups.

Don't torsion grips help with that kind of problem?
E.g. those grips with springs you gave to squeeze together.

I'm so bad with those. I have relatively low grip strength for a male my age. I'll look into it though.

It really depends on what's causing your pain. There are a ton of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, synovial sheaths, and fascia at the wrist/hand. Usually if someone has a pretty specific pain like this, I suggest getting a referral to see an occupational therapist (OT) or physical therapist (PT) if you have insurance. It could be something simple like a chronic tendinitis or more involved. Usually you have to see your primary care physician first, get cleared by them, and acquire a referral. Usually, you can just ask for a referral and they'll give you one.
