Off the top of my head, top 5 of each.

Cain
JDS
Carwin
Brock
Bignog

vs

Werdum
Overeem
Fedor
Barnett
Arlovski

IMO at the point the talent falls off pretty quickly in both organizations.

I just don't agree that SF is "far better". Competitive? Sure. Better? No way. You're entitled to your opinion, but the only SF guy I like against anyone in the UFC I've listed here is Overeem.

Brock is a joke and Big Nog is far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far past his prime.

Overeem, Barnett and Fedor probably have more wins in their careers than JDS/Cain/Carwin/Brock have fights. The latter *really* need to prove themselves.

Wins only count when they're against people that matter.

Hey Woosta, how is Strikeforce HW division far better than the UFC? Both Arlovski and Fedor will now both be out of the top 10. That leaves Werdum (Who was KO'ed by JDS), Silva (who lost a decision to Werdum), Alistair Overroid who hasn't fought a top 10 opponent in MMA yet (K1 doesn't count ask Cro Cop), Sergei Kharitonov (Hasn't fought much over the last 4 years but is the latest to knock out Glass Joe errr Arlovski), Brett Rogers (whose biggest claim to fame besides losing to both Fedor and Overroid is knocking out Glass Joe errr Arlovski), Josh Barnett (who hasn't fought a top 10 opponent and has failed more drug tests than Dwight Gooden).

They may have looked better a year ago but what a difference a year makes. This tournament has backfired on Strikeforce and is going to rob it of it's biggest draws and names. This bracket was put together by someone who is seriously lacking intelligence. They stacked the left side of the bracket with Overroid, Silva, Fedor and Werdum. The right side had Glass Joe err Arlovski, Kharitonov, Barnett and Rogers. The best matchup they can hope for in the finals for excitement is Overroid or Silva versus Barnett.

No one really knows who Kharitonov is, he may end up being great and the winner but he doesn't sell tickets. If Werdum goes far then Strikeforce will continue to have a Champion that JDS knocked out in 1 round. They need Silva to continue to do well or it will further marginalize Fedor if the man who destroyed him losses badly.

Strikeforce had the better HW division but that is no longer the case. The future is brighter for the UFC as Cain is 28 and JDS is 26. The exposure that the UFC gets to the general population is far greater than Strikeforce so they will attract the younger prospects as evidenced by both JDS and Cain being the only top 10 HW under 30 and both are in the UFC.

Hey look at that, a concise post, with rational that Woosta still hasn't responded to.

Anxiously awaiting Woosta's reply. I think I may be waiting a while.

I was at the Strikeforce event this past Saturday in Jersey. The place was crazy. Strikeforce put up an awesome event and it was money well worth spent to me.

That being said, I loved the idea of this tourney, but since Fedor lost, this thing is backfiring on Strikeforce/M1. Fedor is done and I can't imagine how furious Coker must have been after the fight. Overeem will destroy anyone else in this tourney. Everyone else is a has-been or doesn't even deserve to be in it.

I think right now Strikeforce has the best heavyweight fighter in the world, but no way in hell do they have the best heavyweight division. Everyone else besides Overeem is a joke.

Mitrione
Nelson (yes he could)
Valesquez

All could beat Fedor. I think fedor has a 50/50 shot against a few of them. But most I would consider him a sizable underdog. Those are just the guys in the UFC that could stomp him. I wont even go into the other promotions.

LOL.....Couture, Barry, Mitrione, Griffin, Nelson......LOL Oh man..thanks for the laugh. Couture got schooled by Nog and arguably lost to Vera. Barry got choked out by CroCop and barely beat "The Mexicutioner", Nelson got his $hit kicked in by Arlovski. Oh, I get it, it's a joke....sorry, didn't realize right away. I bet BJ Penn, Jose Aldo, and GSP could beat him too.....

This thread is worse than most Shedog threads.....and that's saying a lot.

Fact is, during his prime Fedor was the best fighter the world. He has lost a few steps but is still easily a top 15 HW.....I mean EASILY. Silva is a huge BJJ guy and Werdum is arguably the best BJJ MMA player in MMA (maybe Jacare and Roger Gracie can compete).

Anyway, off the Fedor topic. Kharitonov looks tough. He's a pretty big and lean 250 right now and packs some serious power! CAn't wait for Overeem vs Werdum

Also, the Strikeforce/Showtime commentators are HORRIBLE!! Here are some gems:
"Give it up for.....the Russian" (forgot Sergie Kharitonov's name)
"He's Fedor, he can do whatever he wants" "This is a recording"
"He's a man after my own heart because he plays the accordion, and he's going to try and fold Arlovski....like an accordion....tonight...hah"
"He brutalized him worse than Christina Aguilera did the national anthem for the SuperBowl"

Michael "The Voice" they are not

really? did you watch the fight? some sketchy reffing based on crowd noise imho (it was elitexc after all), nelson shook arlovski up in the opening of the second, they traded back and forth and aa got in a punch on the button. hell, nelson wanted to keep fighting. it happens to almost everyone at some point. did you see nelson fight jds? dude can obviously fight. either way, if that's getting your shit kicked in you might want to see more fights. at this point in fedor's career i would give nelson even odds.

You are right about Strikeforce/M1 being mad. Fedor is M1's cash cow for sure. He brings in viewers for strikeforce/showtime too.

You are wrong about it being a joke. Kharitonov when focuses is no joke. Werdum is a BJJ wizard and can catch anyone. Barnett is very skilled (regardless of being a habitual roider), and Antonio Silva is a HUGE man which a strong chin and vicious ground n pound.

Ahh ya, there was a pretty sketchy standup in that one. I forgot about that too. I did see Nelson vs JDS as well. JDS used Nelson as a punching bag, but Nelson is a tough SOB for sure. He's top 10 HW imo.

My point was that however that guy saying there are 10-15 guys who could easily beat Fedor is wrong. Losing to Werdum via choke b/c you jump into his guard and then getting GnP by a 50 pound heaver Black belt in BJJ does not mean you suck.
I can also see and agree that Fedor does not look like he used to. He doesn't move as fast and actually appears much calmer and more at peace. But to say Mitrione, Couture....Pat Barry??? would beat him is asinine.

Yeah, Pat Miletich is the only guy I like in the Strikeforce announcer booth. Frank Shamrock is annoying, Mauro Ranallo is an ass and Gus Johnson has no idea why he's even there.

Ya, they need more Pat. I've always thought he's really good in the booth. Mauro comes across as an elitist Pride nuthugger thinking he knows everything. Gus is worthless but has nice lipstick. Frank doesn't have a clue what's he talking about. It's almost as if he doesn't watch MMA at all.

They kept saying AA has been KO'd in his last 4 fights. (He was KO by Fedor, KO by Rogers, and decisioned by Bigfoot)
Said Werdum beat 6 of the 7 other guys (he beat Overeem, Bigfoot, and Fedor but lost to AA and Sergei).

People give Rogan and Goldie a lot of crap but usually they know their facts and are interesting.

Also, Michael Schiavello.....you either love him or hate him...I find him hilarious.

fedor is still fedor. if you give him an opening he's going to finish you. some of the names on that list were definitely sketchy, but i don't think nelson is one of those. if the dude would take cardio seriously he could be a real mma force.

Absolutely. If you saw the fight, early on, Fedor threw some haymakers that I don't think many guys could walk away from. But you could see Fedor was real soft in the middle, love handles and all.

Fedor always has love handles. He needs to ditch his management, train differently or hang it up or some combination of those.

don't count nelson's size agianst him. the guy does not gas out. he still moves VERY well for a big man. He has great BJJ and has a lot of power.

the fight with JDS was good. they rocked each other. What Nelson does need is some good trainers with him.

There are a few problems with Fedor continuing his career. As has been mentioned, he needs to train better and drop down to LHW. If he stays at heavyweight to be in shape he will be around 210-215. There are too many HWs now that are legit 250+ lbs with skills and decent enough speed to push him around. The sport has changed. The super huge guys of the past were side shows and didn't have the skills or athleticism to compete with Fedor. He has lost a step, but the big problem is that big guys are stepping up that can fight. I think eventually they will have to have heavyweight from 205-240 and then Super Heavyweight 240+.

Even Sherdog ranks 6 out of the top 10, (and 5 out of the top 7) heavyweights as UFC fighters. Anyone who makes the claim that Strikeforce heavyweights somehow are leagues beyond UFC heavyweights is just an idiot who knows nothing about MMA. And those rankings came out before the latest Fedor smashing, so he'll likely be dropped out of the top 10 now anyway....

Roger would tool both on the ground, IMO. His stand up is still very rudimentary though. I hope he is working it a lot.
