Weird, it's only (only???) $399 Canadian at NCIX.com: Go Canada!!

That's ~ $350 USD...quite a difference!

I would expect prices to fall once supply gets ramped up to demand. Plus newer mobos (that'll continue to be released thru Nov/Dec) will help drive down prices I'm thinking.

I have been waiting since August for the an asus 590/680i, and now that it's finally out it pains me to say I cannot spend $410 on it. If the price does not go down to below $340 by December 10 I will be purchasing a P5B Deluxe.

Wouldn't blame you. You may also be able to take a look at the DFI RD600. It may offer performance you're looking for.

The Striker isn't the only Asus 680i motherboard. Check out the P5N32-E SLI when it comes out, it's a 680i board also and looks like it will sell for $300ish... If you want an nForce 590 SLI based board, the P5N32-SLI Premium should not be too hard to come by for considerably less. I just saw one at my local Fry's earlier today. However, the 590 chipset is not popular at all, so I wouldn't expect great support from Asus for a chipset that had a lifespan of about one month.

If the 680i mobos are debuting at $300-400 (I still think those prices are artificially inflated) then I wonder what the 650i mobos will debut at? They gotta be cheaper since they are to have fewer feautres. $200-$300?

The P5N32-E SLI is out. I ordered one from NewEgg last Friday @$300, and it was delivered yesterday. I just finished popping in in the case an hour or so ago. Unfortunately, I've no time to finish the build until the weekend.

That's putting it mildly. The only reason I got mine is that while I was adding it to my NewEgg wish list, I saw the status suddenly change to 'in stock' I ordered, the status changed to 'out of stock' and it's been that way ever since. The do show an estimated in stock again date of Nov 20th.

Or get that P5N32-E SLI up and running...

no double posts here, and I'm on an nForce4 board.

What im not understanding here is that back when the nforce 5/6 was first announced it was said that this chipset was supposed to be the best performing yet best priced option. I have been waiting for about 4 months with the rest of you and now that its here I dont know what to think. I have to get a new pc before January with the insurance check I got from my 2 machines that got struck by lightening but now I dont think I will be able to get even half of what I want by then. If I put this into my terms of what I want its going to go something like this

400 MB
500 for CPU
2-300 for power supply
600 for Vid
300 for ram
New Case will be anywhere from 85-300
Vista ( just aguessing on price ) 500
New HD and DVD burner 300

thats running close to 3 grand without a new monitor. When I last built a pc it only ran around 1500 for a top end gaming rig. What is going on?

so get the evga 680 i board ...it is a "cheap" 270 cdn

I have been waiting and would have pulled the trigger by now..except now my computer store is insisting on charging 100$ more than everyone else for an 8800 gts.

So here --i am still waiting (not for that rd600 --which was definately coming out mid. october. lol

And i am now thinking ...that evga 680i board looks even better.

As I waste money on upgrades, I ask myself, "when does it end?"

I respond "it never ends." [yes, I respond]

This MOBO is insane! Is that heatsink made of gold?

This is getting insane, lol

search ebay for item # 260057854587 - someone just bought a Striker Extreme for $600.00

Asus keeps delaying this board, and shipping very limited quantities, I think they are trying to "create" a shortage to drive up interest. As far as I can tell, less than 200 boards have been sold in the US so far. Either there are some very major production problems with this board, or, they are trying to drive up demand.

The availability of chipsets is the real issue. The second issue is that the MSRP on the board is $329, anything above that and you are paying EAPS (early adaptor pricing syndrome).
