Stripes and Checkered Pattern booting into XP

Need some advice before shelling out more $$$ for a replacement vid card.

Running the following system:
Asus A7N8XV Deluxe
Barton 2900+
Radeon AIW 9800 Pro
2 x 512 Kingston HyperX DIMMS

Initially started getting the patterns across the full screen when playing games like HL2 and Doom, which required a reboot. Soon after, it would boot this way and I found that throttling back to 2x AGP and 32 MB AGP Cache would help. Running memtest found some problems with my cheap Centon RAM, so I replaced it with Kingston HyperX but am still having the problems. Can only reliably boot with bus speed set at 133MHZ; 166MHZ always results in patterns.

I'm pretty much resigned to replacing my video card with a 6600GT at this point, but just wanted to see if anyone had any other thoughts before I buy another one.

Sounds like you need a new card. However, on my old soyo board if my card got moved the slightest bit it would lose good connection and I would get the exact same thing as you are getting. I would try reseating the card and also try pressing very gently against the card and see if that affects it. I had to replace my mobo over the issue, cause eventually the only way it would work was to physically hold the card in place.
