I've been fighting a nasty cold for a few weeks and finally last Saturday it exploded - Gastric distress, feeling awful, acting really unstable. My son dragged me to the ER, alas they know me way too well.

Diagnosed with another stroke - I already have 4 of them.

At least they let me come home today. Other 4 strokes were very serious. Last time I was in the Stroke unit for 3 months.
This one seems to be relatively minor. I can still walk, talk, and even type on the internet. I'm still completely loopy. Hospital didn't do anything to help recover from my nasty cold.

I'm very weak and am ordered to stay in bed for a long time. My hair has turned white. Not that I care. Yay, I'm still alive - on Saturday I had some doubts about that.

Good God! That's more strokes than a rowing team! Take care of yourself and get better!

Dear OP, I have one question here, given the somewhat fact, that frequency of strokes are often a function of high blood pressure. So I ask are your doctor's doing enough to get your blood pressure under control?

As my other comment is that I can recall some very elderly neighbors who died from their first stroke. And both had spouses who suffered from almost end stage Alzheimer s. Given that you have survived five strokes, clearly have your intellect in tact, and are largely able to live on your own, puts you clearly way ahead of par for the course. With near by family support a real blessing. The quality of life is not to be underestimated.

Good luck and a high quality of life is my wish for you.

Thank you for the good wishes. Yes, I'm fanatical about keeping my blood pressure down and even. My first 2 strokes were the result of heart catheterization when I was diagnosed with heart failure. Then I got diagnosed with diabetes. I'm also fanatical about keeping my blood sugar low and even. Unfortunately blood pressure meds do bad things to blood sugar. Still not sure which is more important to keep down - blood pressure or blood sugar. Yes, I know that I'm lucky to have done as well as I have.

Enjoy life while you have it.

Sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon. Ischemic or hemorrhagic?
My first two were ischemic, after surgery. This one was hemorhagic, very close to the very serious hemorhagic one I had last year. Ironically, I have a brain embolism as the result of messed up brain surgery I had last year, the embolism is still intact. Talk about lucky!

I'm feeling amazingly good for my situation. Time to go back to sleep. Having crazy wild dreams.
