Strong Sturdy Ink-Jet Printer

Our office prints out about 2400 pages (both b&l and color) maybe more..

we change color and black catridges more than 2 wice in a month..

our current printer just broke down, after being abused for 2 years.


now, I need very strong sturdy printer that can handle the load...


any recommendation?

hp 1200 series. individual high-volume carts, 1000+ pages per cart. fast, lots of options, (duplexing, networking, etc.) high quality prints.

If the volume of B&W printouts is high enough, consider a laser printer in conjunction with a color inkjet. Even the most budget laser printer can output text faster and better looking than most inkjets, plus the toner costs will be lower than ink on a per page basis.

well, that's kind of a hassle.

Only reason that we need a color inkjet is that we have to print out Appraisal Report

we receive it as a PDF file from appraisal company,
and it has pictures for about 3-4 pages,
and rest of it is blackandwhite...

it will be just too much hassle to seperate one files into printing out to 2 different printers..


we already have 10 diff. black and white laser printers anywayz..

so ye... we just need a good strong ink-jet printer to support the load.

Check out the Canon iP4000 or iP5000. My nearest Staples had some left at decent prices. These are last year's models but they use ink tanks which are available from 3rd party makers. Plus the volume of ink in the tanks is more than the new replacements that just came out. And you can't buy 3rd Party ink for the new ones yet. Ink tanks from swiftink.com work great on the 4k and 5k while saving about 2/3 on ink cost. A set of tanks last me 4 or 5 months but at nowhere near the duty cycle you are talking about.
. I've sent off a question to Canon about the duty cycle for these printers. You might consider using two or three of them at a time.
. The HP 2800 series has a duty cycle of 10k per month, but one of those costs more than three iP4000s and the ink costs would still be dramatically less with Canon. I'm sure that the duty cycle of three 4000s would surpass the HP.

I know you may already have your mind made up, but I think you should look at a cheap color laser. They can do color photos nowadays and are a much better deal per page than any inkjet.
HP, Konica Minolta and Lexmark all have color lasers of various grades. Just get one that matches your monthly paper output. In the long run you'll save a lot of money buying toner vs. ink.

As for inkjets, I like the high-end thermals HP used to make. But I'm not sure about the quality of the new ones.

These come standard with 64MB of RAM and the biggest has 650 sheet input. Seperate colors of course, which I think should be the standard all around.
26 pages black and 22 pages color is pretty fast. But again, I would look at lasers first.

I agree with shortylickens that in a business environment, a color laser printer would be practical and economically feasible. Your monthly output dictates the use of a laser over an inkjet. Here's a link that will compare the top 10.
