If you don't need the additional inputs, i wouldn't get the 3008WFP unless it's about the same price as the rest.

The Samsung i would not consider as it's S-PVA not S-IPS like the other four.

Really, from the LG/HP/3007WFP-HC, i'd personally likely mainly look at price/warranty as they are pretty much the same monitor in terms of quality.
The HP does have the three DVI inputs vs. just one.

I hate suggesting elsewhere, but HardForum's LCD section has threads on these with a lot more owner feedback that will likely help you with your decision.

Thanks for the insight n7. Based on what I was able to discover the LG sounds like a winner. I have also been hearing a lot of good things about the HP. User satisfaction was very high for both monitors. I was going to pull the trigger on the LG yesterday but the Egg is OOS for another week or so. Either way I should have some big screen goodness in a couple of weeks...or less.

@ShoNuff
Post a mini-review of whichever screen you get if you can. I'm interested in a 30" as well.

Well...I did it! I pulled the trigger on the Dell WFP3008. In the end I picked the Dell for the HD compatibility and the ability to connect multiple devices. Price wasn't so much of an issue given the fact that MS Cashback is back in effect. I found a seller on ebay that is selling NIB guaranteed satisfaction. I followed up with two people who purchased the same monitor from him and chatted with him on two different occasions over the last three days. Buying direct from Dell would have cost me $1840 (tax and environmental fees...) vs. the $1375 I paid today.

I'm looking forward to playing with this puppy early next week.

Why the hate for my sammy?

I think the colors on mine are amazing. I should note I'm colorblind.

Hah!

I didn't actually buy one. I ended up getting a new system instead. I pulled the thread back up to see if anyone actually bought one of those monitors.

I have a 3008WFP and it is fantastic. Prior to acquiring it I owned a 3007WFP-HC, which was also great. I prefer the 3008WFP overall, but if you asked me if it was worth the price premium, I'd have to say no, unless you need the extra inputs of course.

Anyway, I picked mine up for around $1200 refurbished, which is far lower than the MSRP. The Dell refurb also come with a 3-year warranty. The unit I received practically looked brand new - no visible defects or dead pixels.

i have a 3008WFP as well, love it. I ended up getting mine on ebay, brand new, for 1260 shipped plus 8% cashback.

I have two of the HP lp3065, and am really happy with them...

I would really like to see the gateway or samsung though, I've heard its slightly better for primarily text oriented usage.

Wow, those prices are right in the range of high end 40-50 inch HDTV but with only 1080P resolution.

If it were me, I'd sacrifice the higher resolution and purchase a nice 42" 120hz LCD and just play with maxed out AA for gaming quality.

$1000-1500 is not a "high end" LCD TV, it's mid-range. With the 30" LCD, you get better resolution, better pixel density (sharpness) and an amazing monitor. The 42" LCD is also not really 120hz (it's interpolated frames) and is horrible for anything other than playing games or watching movies.

That's why I put in there "if it were me."

If I wanted pixel density (sharpness) and better resolution, I'd game on my 15" Dell Laptop at 1920x1200 native resolution.

I don't use my computer just for gaming Having nearly 40 % desktop restate over a standard 1920x1200 monitor makes my life easier. It's a godsend when working with big documents in Photoshop. Might get a second when I can afford it.

I've had the 3007WFP-HC and now I have the 3008WFP. While the 3008 is better overall, because of the price, I would not recommend it unless you need the extra inputs or the internal scaler.
When the scaler is in use, you will have some input lag.
For gaming, get the 3007WFP-HC. I was very pleased with it and it's not expensive either.

I'm not *super* picky about color, but is the 07-HC equal to the 08? My 2408 looks noticably better than my 2407, which is in turn better than my 2405. I do have color calibration hardware/software.
