Stuck number 6 key

I bought a Lenovo u430 Touch laptop about a year and a half ago. Recently the laptop developed an issue where the number 6 key is stuck. Tried canned air to clean the key and reinstalling windows thinking it was a software issue. No luck. I have a feeling the keyboard needs to be replaced. Before I do that I figure ask here if there is anything else I should or could do before replacing the keyboard. Thanks.

Don't know what happened but the issue has resolved itself. Not had a problem for a few days now. Maybe a keyboard software issue? I'm hoping it will be okay. If not I already have a few leads on where I can buy a new keyboard.

Replacing a keyboard is not usually very hard, depending on your model. The last Lenovo I did was snapped, screwed and glued. They did not want that think coming loose!

The general method is similar but specific instructions for your laptop would be helpful. Sometimes there are hidden screw or non-standard connectors that are helpful to know about.

Thanks lakedude. Looks like the problem is still persisting. I will be changing it out myself. Don't want to pay the $100 the local store wants. I've seen some videos on Lenovo's website a while ago on disassembly but couldn't find it recently. I'll do a bit more research and jump in as soon as I get a new keyboard.

Well looks like the keyboard is going south. Now the right shift key isn't working. I was able to find a new palmrest keyboard on eBay and ordered it last night. It was better to order the complete palmrest keyboard assembly as the keyboard is secured in the palmrest with plastic anchors. I was able to find the service manual and disassembly videos on Lenovo which will make it easier to do the replacement. I'll report on how it goes.

If that model is anything like the T series, it's a couple of screws, pop the keyboard out, slide in the new one, screw it back in. 5-10 minute job at most.

I wish it was that simple. From what Ive seen on the service videos all the components are layered and mounted the below the keyboard. Need to remove all the components and move them to the new palmrest keyboard assembly. Looks all modular in design so hopefully it won't take too long to disassemble and reassemble.

I got the new keyboard palmrest a couple nights ago and replaced the original one last night. All went well except that the new replacement doesn't have the back light feature. That's okay as I didn't use the feature that much.

BTW the Lenovo videos on their service training website was great in guiding me through disassembly and reassembly. I was glad I didn't have any extra screws left and I didn't break any wiring or ribbon cables.
