we get about 250 inches of snow every year here and i have not seen one car with studs. not sure if they are legal or not. i personally do not think anyone really needs them. I get by fine with all seasons, even while living on a very steep hill.

Apperantly you haven't drove on clogged up freeways with constant black ice. The only way to drive safley i studded. If you try to stop even at 5mph you just slide uncontrolably to a stop. It's hard to even see if anyone is driving with studs as most are less than a 1/4".

we don't have freeways.... i think the closest 70mph speed limit is about a 3.5 or 4 hour drive. we get lots of snow and ice. but people here are used to it, we get 12 inches of snow in a day and life goes on like its the middle of june.

Its weird. When its really awful out, I stay the fuck off the highway around here. The side roads have some crap on them and aren't plowed as much as the highway, but the thing about crap is that you can get SOME traction in it.

With the amount of traffic on the highway and the amount of plowing, in cold conditions it gets scraped down to and melted and refrozen into ice way more often in my experience. Combine this with the higher speed limits and your standard "I've got 4WD so snow doesn't matter to me" noobs and the highway is just a nightmare. I'd rather plug along at 25-30 in the side roads...at least if I went off the road or got stuck I could probably knock on some one's door and there's little chance of being hurt at that speed.

I think you posted this drunk or stoned...

However, black ice is not = to a heavy snow area.

It's not that hard to understand, there isn't a constant heavy snow buildup on the road even if you get x amount. Sooner or later as the snow falls from the sky or off of cars it will turn into black ice or ice.

So does not driving like an ass. Every car that I have seen get into an accident\go off the road was doing something blatantly retarded. luckily none of those mistakes have been fatal.

"May be you shouldn't take this corner at 55"

"No, its fine. I have 4 wheel dri...OMG!!!" *crash*
