Oh, never mind, sorry. Thought you were talking about a commandline...

There are lots of cards that can run 1920x1200 with acceptable frame rates ..

the 6800 np 128MB is not one of them.

VERY true. 1920x1200 is just TOO much for that card plan and simple. I don't even think I would try it with my 6800 GT...

What does that do? I've never seen that command before...

CL_Smooth 0 makes it smoother for my self and others. I don't know if it still has the effect it had when the game first came out but I have been using it for quite sometime and its been much smoother feeling since.

JBT your 6800GT will destroy HL2 @ 1920x1200.. Especially without ANY AA of AF.

lol thats good cause I just ordered one of the 2405's a few hours ago lol... Now I just need to sell my 2001FP...

MisterChief Try it out your self. I don't really have any FPS issues or anything. It just seems to help the games stuttering a bit.

Awesome..

Let me know when you get it, curious to see how it goes for you..

BTW..

just was playing HL2 @1680x1050, 4x AA, 8x AF juuuuuuuuust fine..

what card are you using? when i use 2xAA and 4xAF ill drop between 30-40 w/ my 6800Ultra and usually i dont drop below 40 w/ my x800xtpe at that resolution so in order to get a constant 60 (vsync enabled) on 1680x1050 my guess is you need sli

Or maybe peoples' perception of just fine is different. One person may think 30 fps is smooth while others would wince at anything less than 60. I am one of those in the later category, and one of the reasons why I purchased SLI.

6800GT @ 400/1100

I would consider myself pretty picky when it comes to fluid game play, and 1680x1050 is silky smooth.. 4xx AA and 8x AF runs AWESOME.

I have Vsync DISABLED though.. Doesn't really bother me..

Will fraps detect FPS in HL2?

Using the Fraps benchmark.. I believe 60 second spans.. ( I tried to use during big fight scences ) Follow Freeman.

I got the following..

MIN 35 MAX 94 AVG 55.249
MIN 44 MAX 64 AVG 50.438
MIN 35 MAX 71 AVG 47.755

Granted it's the not the best way to tell.. Those "snapshots" are during high action scenes..

I can live with a 50fps avg @ 1680x1050 4xAA 8x AF.

well a 13200 3d mark 03 score says theres nothing wrong with my pcs performance and i notice it stutter in css when running 4xAA and 8xAF so i run 2xAA and 4xAF (1680x1024) which tells me that to run 1920x1200 on any card equal or lower than an ultra will be unable to perform decent w/ AA enabled. i dont care about average fps i just care about how low it will go, i dont like my FPS going lower than 35-40

Ok? ??

I didn't say to play 1920x1200 @ 2xAA and AF..

I score about 12K in 03' and exactly 5500 in 05..

My fps are typically higher than 50, but if 50 is the avg. I see absolutely no problems with that in a game like HL2..

I am thinking about buying the 2405fpw and am very confident that 1920x1200 is very playable.

in CS:S the stuttering most likely is a combination of things...

obviously if some of the people playing have high pings, it slows things down for everyone, also the server itself despite being fast connection might be a slow hardware so the lag spikes begin...lol
But a lot of what you will find is that people playing often have their settings up too high for their hardware, so they can see things shiny.....sadly this slows down their framerates, and that has to slow down how things work for everyone....
so all combined can mean a stuttery game for all.....

in HL2 however i dont know, my PC running the specs in my sig has very few problems, the sound is fine, the video is smooth, only in the most strenuous sections does my fps drop down but still at playable levels without looking like a family holiday slideshow...lol
cant remember exactly what its set at but i think 1280x1024, reflect all, 2xAA 8xAF and most other things on high......from what i remember....dunno exactly what my fps were but usually reasonably high.....

anyhow, time for a meeting, toodlepip.....

It is a bug of the game, thera are reports of the most powerfull systems having this problem.
When i say powerfull system is Athlon 64 FX55 and Radeon X850XT PE 256MB and 1GB RAM. Valave has released patches to solve the problem, but a the moment they have not ben able to solve it completely.

There is no way a 6800nu is gonna run HL 2 smoothly on that monitor at native resolution. I've got that card and a 3ghz CPU and run HL 2 at that wierd 1158 (sumthing like that) lines of resolution on my 2001fp. I would try 1280X1024 but that res is designed for a 19 in LCD....so I get wierd artifacts. I remember when I had a 19" CRT 1280 was the highest I could go without getting too boggy. The 6800nu is not a good match for the 2405, IMO.

While my machine is no Athlon FX-55, I was able to solve the severe stuttering problem on my machine. Well, the solution actually wasn't done specifically for the stuttering issue, but its at least gone now.

First off, my machine is a Barton 3200+, 1GB Kingmax RAM, Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev. 2 mobo (w/ most recent BIOS) and a Radeon 9800 Pro. Using motherboard sound. Useless (for me) devices like serial, parallel and game ports are turned off in the BIOS.

A complete reformat of my HD and a reinstall of slipstreamed WinXP Pro SP2, latest ATI Catalyst drivers and latest nVidia nForce 2 drivers (and of course a reinstall of HL2) seems to have cured my HL2's stuttering issue completely.

Drastic it may seem, but I was also have some other issues, so I thought a clean start would help things all around. Its had the added benefit of curing the HL2 stuttering problem.

Same hardware... Stutter before; no stutter after.

many people have suffered the stuttering bug because they tried to play the game before it was fully downloaded. If you have the discs, then this wont help you. If you downloaded from the net, like me, then you have to right click on HL2 in the steam games menu and go to properties. If it isn't 100% complete, don't start the game up. Reinstall the game and make sure it's fully downloaded before playing.
