Someone from their forums discribing the correct installation procedure for this card:

In typical Pinnacle fashion, the only possible cause of your problems is YOU. Please try the following to rectify your situation:

Uninstall your software and re-install. Make sure you go through the entire process. If you don't reboot at least 6 times and take at least an hour doing it, you're doing something wrong. Don't blame the Pinnacle software, it was especially designed to promote frustration. Next, grab the phone and call Pinnacle Tech support. You will hear the uncaring voice of the village idiot, who will randomly pick technical suggestions from a general list because they have nothing intelligent to offer. None of their random suggestions will help you, but at least you get to listen to a human voice. Hell, you probably don't even own a Pinnacle card, but just called their number because you are lonely.

After following those steps: uninstall and then reinstall your software again. Don't forget to follow the instructions that require you to reboot at least 6 times. 7 times is better. Uninstall your software again and then go to the Pinnacle web site and d/l the utility that will allow you to uninstall the registry entries that were never uninstalled the first time, but necessary to proceed. Install the registry deletion software and cross your fingers, knowing how competant the Pinnacle software/drivers has been in the past, trust it to start tinkering with your registry. If your system survives, install the software again. Be sure to reboot 6-7 times when prompted. (by the time you have reached this point, you should have installed and un-installed the software about 36 times) When the installation process is complete and your card still doesn't work, go over the un-installation process again. Don't forget to run the registry deletion software. Put your Pinnacle card back into the box and pack it with all manuals and software. go to ebay.com and place the card up for auction. Start the bidding at .99 + shippping. Wait 7-10 days for the auction to end. Carefully pack it for shipping. Go to paypal.com and collect the $2.00 you earned in the auction. After collecting your money go to the Post Office and ship your Pinnacle card out to the next unsuspecting victim. Try to sleep at night, knowing you were bilked by an uncaring corporation selling garbage.

Don't expect anything from Pinnacle in terms of support. I have one their other products (DC10+) and I've had problems with it forever. All I got from their tech support was a lot of run-arounds and no responses. Many of their products have problems with VIA chipset motherboards. I would suggest you try the PCI Latency Patch by George E. Breese and see if that solves your problem.

Hope this helps,
Hiral

I went out yesterday and grabbed one of these at CompUSA... $49.99 minus the $20 MIR, as promised. Took a time or two to get Windows 98SE up and running with it, but eventually got it going and it works fine. From what I've seen it's pretty solid. Hooked up my cable, ran the channel scan, and that's about it... I now get 65 channels on my PC. Clarity is fine. For the price, you can't complain too much about this one.

For you guys having no sound problems, make sure you hook up the included exterior jumper cable between the TV card and your Sound INPUT jack on your soundcard or your PC sound jack and that you set up the volume controls in windows such that the Sound INPUT is not muted.

The card is decent. As I said before though, Pinnacle just sucks - service wise. Go to their forums and see all the bitching and complaining. Not even a few responses from them regarding anything. Hell, they don't even moderate the boards. (Which is currently being tested )

Also of note, if you have two sound playing devices, the audio will only play on the card it is plugged in to. I've got an SB Live which I plug the TV card into and that outputs to my external amp. I've got the MS Digital Sound System hooked up to my USB port. Even if I have all the system sound playing out of the MDSS, the TV audio will still play out of the Live. This could be a problem for some.

Again, I had zero problems installing this card under Win2k using the included drivers. I've never had a TV card installed before so I didn't have to worry about extra drivers. The remote work great too!

Now I just have to figure out how to get the TV to make use of my second monitor...

I've only got one cable drop in my room that the computer is in. On Sunday I unhooked my cable modem to hook up the TV tuner. I intended to go to Radio Shack and get a splitter, but I couldn't on Sunday. Anyway, when I hooked up my cable modem again, it didn't work! I rehooked everything back up but still no luck. I called TW and they sent a guy out last night. I gave me a new modem and it worked fine. But I still only had one drop there. I asked him about getting a splitter at RS and installing it, and he said they used a different frequency!?? He wanted me to schedule a time when they could come out and hook it up for me for 16 bucks.

I said, "well, you are here now, can you do it?" He said to just follow him to his truck and he just gave me the splitter and more coax cable and didnt' charge me anything. So, now I have two drops in that room both cable modem and cable TV on the same computer!

<< No, I'm talking about the Pinnacle one being a POS.

Support for them is non-existant! They NEVER get back with you, you end up downloading items from their German site vs the US one because it doesn't get updated.

You get better support from Google on it.

Mine is about to get the heave-ho... Tired of XP locking up several times a day, and then having problems coming back up. (and I know it is the TV card causing it!)

YMMV, but I'd think twice...
>>

Doods...buy Haupaugge if you want TV cards. They only make TV capture/video capture cards, have great tech/drivers support, have been making these cards for over 6 years, and they work with all versions of Windows (some even work with Linux!). I have the WinTV DBx w/ remote and it's great! With extra software, it acts just like a Tivo, has a great picture and sound, lots of inputs and outputs...excellent product. Their stuff starts around $39 and goes up to $200 or so.

Just my .04 (my opinion is twice as valuable than other people's opinions )

Hey, i just purchased this card from Crap USA.

What software would you recommend for recording television shows onto my hard drive? I am running Windows XP and the one that it comes with is pretty basic. Any links or suggestions would be helpful..

Pakaderm -

I got the same set up as yours by splitting the cable coax with a splitter to the NIC and TV input of the PCTV card. Everything works well under WinME with both cable modem and cable TV on the same desktop.

The only problem I experienced so far is that Channel 2 picks up sound that is not its. When I changed channel 3 to 2 or last cable channel (like 80) to 2, the sound worked for 5 seconds and then it would pick up some radio station and stayed that way. Do you have the same problem ?

Argh, both online and all local b&m's are sold out by now. Would anybody like to sell me theirs? I have XP, but I guess I might as well give it a try, despite all the horror stories. That is, if I manage to get one of those cards.

dc, dscaler should run with any drivers because it doesn't use them. it interfaces directly with hardware. to get it to work i chose

card - pinnacle pctv studio pro
tuner - phillips 1236D atsc/ntsc input 2

under settings - audio input i chose msp/radio

good luck

I think I know what you are talking about. Does it sound like a computer talking? I believe it's the secondary channel of audio. I'm not exactly sure what it is, or how to describe why it's there, but go into the audio settings and switch it to Stereo Channel 1. Actually, I think it's that SAP programming; you would also get it on your TV. If changing to Stereo Channel 1 instead of Stereo Channel 1+2 doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what to do. Try that first tho..

After two whole days i finally got the damn card to work. Its pretty nice considering all the trouble it put me through. remote functions pretty well also. after installing the card and software the system would crash when i ran the software. none of the other drivers i tried to install that other members recommended work also. finally, after uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting about a few trillion times i decided to skip the test portion and low and behold it worked! i'm currently running win98se.
