I disagree, it is brainwashing. It’s been going on for decades and really ramped up after the start of the Iraq war. It first started as extreme nationalism, then financial anxiety, then racial anxiety, to ideological polarization that we have now.

I do wonder though, looking back through the years, if what I thought was people getting older and their personality changes being attributed to early dementia was actually just their brainwashing taking a more prominent hold on them.
The study by industry of how to sell products by creating need that nobody had previously taught politicians how to manipulate the public to need someone to make them feel insecure from the fantastical threats out there they were being fed. It was easy because everyone to some degree is a victim of child abuse and that, the deepest fear the ego seeks to hide by projecting the guilt out there and blaming somebody for all the ills of the world.

That may be true but, You have half a country of "Dummies" to show and convince them of that. It's not gonna happen. Sorry Charlie

In fact I believe there is a study that shows smart people are actually more likely to fall for disinformation specifically because they think they are smart enough not to fall for such things and because they are capable of justifying/rationalizing misinformation.
The betrayal of the ego is the most important truth most people will have the opportunity of learning in their lifetime.

No. Having seen the degree to which Putin has brainwashed his people, there is no such thing as being smart enough not to be brainwashed or gas lit. In fact I believe there is a study that shows smart people are actually more likely to fall for disinformation specifically because they think they are smart enough not to fall for such things and because they are capable of justifying/rationalizing misinformation.

I'd really need to see that study, because I vehemently disagree.

Intelligence isn't just about knowing a lot; it's about knowing what you don't know, and knowing how to exercise critical thinking. If anything, I'd expect brighter people to be highly resistant to disinformation as their first instinct will be "hold on, what are your sources? That doesn't sound right."

Besides, just look at the demographics for American voters. Pew Research Center data shows that Republicans have been shedding college-educated voters in the past 20 years... and, well, guess who Fox is aimed at? From everything I've seen, disinformation works best against poorly educated and simply not-so-bright people — they not only don't know enough to realize a claim is false, they don't know how to investigate a claim in the first place.

I find that an interesting question. On the face of it I find that claimed study conclusion entirely plausible. I don't believe that it's a matter of "intelligence", so much as what an individual's experiences have been and whether they predispose them to doubt and skepticism or not.

Edit - the more I think about it, the more complicated it seems, because one can also become _too_ prone to disbelieving what you are told, hence countries with governments that have traditionally lied to the population are likely to have more vaccine skepticism, for example. I think people talk about "intelligence" too much when what is really involved are cultures and personality traits.

I like your openness to questioning and this demonstration of a willingness to dive into complexities. Try looking at it from the point of view that the capacity to be manipulated is related to one’s emotional neediness. You know what conformational bias is, I am sure. How might the need for conformation arise and differ from individual to individual?

Who's the liar now, bitch?

You are and thanks for proving me right once again.

From your excuse story by NBC
"At the same time, dozens of former intelligence officials have said the story has the hallmarks of a Russian intelligence operation. After the election interference of 2016, the news media is especially wary of doing anything to further an effort by a foreign government to intervene in a presidential campaign."

Again a proven lie that you obviously still buy into.

Wait, so the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election? I thought you were staunchly opposed to such accusations.

It's always fun to watch you throw up a cherry picked sentence thinking you are victorious in proving your point, when in fact you only strengthen the claim made against, which is you are the liar and manipulator here.

Have those dozens of former intelligence officials now been classified as a media platform, or is it the media platform reporting what was said by former officials in a signed letter? Who made such claims about Russia, the "lefties" media outlet, or former officials? (hint it's not the "lefties" media outlet as you claim). Was the media outlet (Politico / NBC) pulling shit out of the air, or where they reporting on actual facts given at the time (You know, maybe a letter signed by dozens of former officials)? Did you even read the article in the link provided in the one sentence quote you cherry picked, when you just skimmed threw the NBC article, latching on to something you thought supported your bullshit? Obviously not, or you wouldn't be sitting there with shit all over your face from the shit sandwich you are trying to feed us, only to be the one eating it. Do you like that taste? It sure seems like it, because this seems to be a common occurrence for you.

Good job! Now he’ll ignore this thread until a couple of pages pass where he’ll pretend like you never just schooled the shit out of him.

Because it's bullshit. Fox news was correct in publishing the facts about Hunter Biden's laptop and the "intelligence officials" were wrong. Fox and the New York Post reported the truth accurately and the various left wing media partisans covered the truth up for well over a year. Watching you lying cockroaches scatter when the lights come on is one of the fun things about this forum.

Lol so the traitor posts in this thread while ignoring the actual facts of the situation posted here:

Here is the whole story in a nutshell.

Exclusive: Leaked Messages Reveal the Origins of the Most Vile Hunter Biden Smear – Mother Jones

Late in the 2020 presidential campaign, trailing in the polls, Donald Trump and his allies worked to make a campaign issue out of a trove of files on a laptop that his opponent’s son, Hunter Biden, had apparently abandoned at a Delaware repair shop. The effort to publicize compromising emails, images, and videos from the device involved prominent Trump confidants including Rudy Giuliani and Steven Bannon. But it also featured an unexpected player: Guo Wengui, a fugitive Chinese tycoon who was working with Bannon to build a small empire of Chinese-language media outlets, nonprofits, and other ventures.

He stands against liberals and democrats, that’s it, that’s his whole being. His principals, morals, supported policies, and I bet even religion, are all fluid and dependent on hating liberals and democrats.

In other words he stands for nothing and is a complete loser like his cult leader, who also doesn’t stand for anything except greed.

Outside of the Fox world AFAIK, the stolen election narrative is routinely described as completely unsubstantiated BS. If you had a chance to hear that a few times you would have a different view than you got from Faux News.

No, but we can imprison him for not declaring himself as a foreign agent and for tax evasion. Maybe get to his Daddy in an impeachment for taking money undeclared i.e. "the big guy" when the Republicans take the House in 2022.
Mike Flynn did the same thing and he was a high ranking government official, so he goes first. If you are really serious about your lame justification.

Anyone else shocked that Fox News = RT?

and some still wonder why the Russian people are so brainwashed.

Republicans and right wing media engage in Putin style propaganda every day.

In every test Fox News viewers are always the least informed of the public. Again, you still wonder why??
