My first question would be how are "liberals" really defined as to the scope of this study?
Most people I know on both sides of the political spectrum self-define as "moderates", where those that self-define as "liberal" are usually considered fairly extreme when compared to average American beliefs.

http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/...ngs/Social-networking-sites-and-politics.aspx

"Liberals are the most likely to have taken each of these steps to block, unfriend, or hide. In all, 28% of liberals have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on SNS because of one of these reasons, compared with 16% of conservatives and 14% of moderates."

Lmao. That Facebook post tells it all.

Sure, I'm intolerant. But I have to deal with the morons who willingly go through life ignorant and oblivious. I actually started very tolerant, and then I discovered how many are out there, and how readily they will ignore all evidence to the contrary and not approach with an open mind.

So now, I'm an angry, pissed off old man, and I am just shy of the quarter century mark!

Half of P&N would be like: "That's just four factual statements. Where's the joke?"

Being conservative means never having to put up with someone dumber than you.
I wonder if they're the lucky ones?

If this is shocking to you then you clearly never visited our P&N forum.
Or any political forum.
Or any forum.

I have a hard time believing it's just "liberals" that are douchebags online and not "everyone".

You all do realize that facebook post is most likely faked right?

On the other hand it is almost true...if the Earth were 10% closer or further than it is it would be outside the habitable zone.

And as far as the study goes, obvious conclusions are obvious

almost true? 10 feet is very different to 10%. Besides which, the respondent mentions that the Sun's habitable zone is from 0.95 AU to 1.37 AU - ie a lot more than 10% difference.

Almost as in word of mouth could easily change 10% to 10ft...and estimates for the habitable zone have changed many times over the years, though your correct that's the most recent estimate...10% closer would screw us by that estimate but we would have a bit more play to get further if that's right.

*edit* i thought this picture was self explanatory, so anyway, directly from the linked article:

Politics can be a sensitive subject and a number of SNS users have decided to block, unfriend, or hide someone because of their politics or posting activities. In all, 18% of social networking site users have taken one of those steps by doing at least one of the following:

10% of SNS users have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on the site because that person posted too frequently about political subjects
9% of SNS users have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on the site because they posted something about politics or issues that they disagreed with or found offensive
8% of SNS users have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on the site because they argued about political issues on the site with the user or someone the user knows
5% of SNS users have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on the site because they posted something about politics that the user worried would offend other friends
4% of SNS users have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on the site because they disagreed with something the user posted about politics

In general, I'm fine with that explanation, but it doesn't pass the common sense test. Even assuming a person knows absolutely nothing about science, thinking a 10' change in orbit would make a planet uninhabitable is ridiculous.

But anyone who continues to run with it after changing to 10 ft is oblivious enough to the scale of EVERYTHING to irritate the fucking shit out of me.

I mean seriously - 10 feet versus 49 BILLION feet? Oh, fuck it. Close enough, right?

That just means liberals are smarter and know how to use technology to get online.

Honestly, this study doesn't reveal much. Just yesterday we heard that in conservative Mississippi more than 50% responded that interracial marriage should be illegal. So conservatives are plenty intolerant as well.
