When I first joined the federal government there were lots of jobs like that. Each Agency had its own woodshop, electric shop, plumbing shop, paint shop etc. And there were positions called lampist. Apparently there is still a few left.
Job description
Federal O&M Contractor needing Lampist/General Laborer for Dallas location. Duties primarily include changing light bulbs and ballasts on ceilings and walls; Operating a scissor lift; Assisting HVAC techs, plumbers, and general maintenance workers; Minor plumbing solutions (Clearing drains, unstopping commodes, etc.); Cleaning grease traps; Checking doors for functionality and other general labor/facilities maintenance duties.
Position requires climbing ladders and lifting over 25 lbs frequently.
Employer has drug/alcohol policy.
Must be able to pass background security check.
Employer is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
