Stumped for speaker setup

I treat my PC as an Htpc for the fact that I have hdmi running into TV to watch movies/ netflix etc. I've been relying on PC speakers for sound, and after moving into a new apartment, I just can't deal with it anymore mostly because my PC speakers are off to the left of my couch on my computer desk which really makes for horrid sound when watching TV.

I'd really like to get a speaker setup going for my TV but honestly I have no idea how to go about it. Should I get a nice setup for TV and just run all sound from PC into it, and do away with PC speakers completely? I suppose sound behind me for gaming on my PC would be viable. On the other hand, is there any type of setup where I could switch the sound between PC speakers and an external speaker setup for TV?

Hoping maybe someone in a similar situation comes across this thread. I currently do not have a receiver or anything so I'd be looking for some type of powered setup for no more than $200, also considering a soundbar. If I could somehow also do it wirelessly, that'd be swell.

Below is a very detailed and extravagant illustration of my livingroom so you can get a better idea.

Best option would be to have a separate set of speakers for TV, since you are not doing surround sound, $200 its a good budget to get a pair if bookshelf or a soundbar. But your TV must have a audio out for it work. Let us know if you need some recommendations

PC will have the ability to switch the sound output between onboard and HDMI, just left click on the speaker icon and choose "playback devices".

There are wireless HDMI bridges available but the good ones cost close to $200, iirc, there was a thread here a while back where someone had a $50 one and was happy with it.

Yes I can switch the output of my PC to go thru the HDMI output to my TV, and TV has plenty of sound outputs. I would like some more recommendations for speakers or sound bars though. I don't have a lot of room for speakers so a soundbar up on the wall along with a subwoofer would be ideal.

Just getting a A/V Receiver and adding speakers to it over time might be a good option.

There are plenty of old school speakers floating around out there pretty reasonable that still will work fine with a newer one.

Sounds like be a bit large for what you have in mind though.
