Hey Guys...
I am running into a developing situation with a new rig I am building. Here are the basic components I am using to test if this thing POSTs:
Shuttle AK31 Mobo V 2.0 (VIA KT266A Chipset)
AMD Athlon 1 Ghz CPU (100 FSB)
Ti4200 AGP Video Card
1 Stick of 256MB PC2100 (Samsung)
20GB HDD Maxtor (Master)
Floppy
Enlight 300W PSU
Ok. That is all the components I have hooked up right now to test. I just wanted to get it to POST consistently. The problem I am running into is that when it first booted, I got long, repetitive beeps which leads me to believe it is a memory problem. I would reseat the RAM in the same DIMM slot, same thing. I would move it to 2nd DIMM slot, same thing. I would move it to the 3rd DIMM, and it would POST, so I would go into BIOS, and change some settings, etc, but then, after a minute or so, my keyboard would no longer work, as I could not manipulate anything in the Bios?
I would re-boot (without moving memory) and then I would get the consecutive long beeps again. I would reseat it in the 4th slot, and it would POST again, let me go into BIOS, and the keyboard would go again.
Then, I moved the one stick of memory back in all of the different slots again, and it would POST every now and then and do the same thing (keyboard would go after a minute), etc, etc, etc.
The beeps keep on going when it doesn't post - no shutdown. I do believe it is memory related, but since I only have one stick of memory, I cannot test that. Unfortunately, I got this mobo and one stick of memory from someone who said it was working.
Any thoughts???
***** UPDATE ***** : I placed the memory stick in another rig and it was recognized just fine. So now that I know it is not necessarily the memory stick, I am really lost!!!
