ARRRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!! THIS POS IS PISSING ME OFF!!!

Ok, here is the story, i bought the mobo with a brand new T-Bird 1.33 and 512 of Mushkin recommended RAM. When i installed everything, it wouldnt power up, so i went and bought a new 300W Sparkle PS. Now here comes the irritating part, when trying to install Windows XP, i had to eventually strip the PC down to the bare essentials JUST TO GET PAST DETECTING DEVICES. but it took about 25 reboots even at this stripped down state to get past that which makes me think it is a motherboard problem.

After i have everything installed and components back in, i am able to get into the computer. but the mahcine locks up all the time and when i try to reboot, it will hang on a dimly lit WINDOWS XP loadup screen. I CANT EVEN BOOT THE PC NORMALLY!!! i have the latest bios, but no idea!!!

Help anyone? it is imperative because it is my recording machine for my studio

Ok, #1 thing: are you positive you don't have your heatsink reversed 180°? The base has a step in one end to clear the solid plastic section of the CPU socket. Put it on the other way and you're gonna have problems.

More ideas:
  • Look at the rear of the power supply and confirm that the voltage slider is set to the right voltage (110V/220V)
  • What are the memory-voltage jumpers set for? They are near the rear end of the AGP slot, and you can find the settings detailed here
  • Is the overvoltage jumper enabled? If so, disable it pronto. It's near the top center of the board and you want the cap on pins 2-3, the ones to the right.
  • Are you using jumper-free mode? Good idea to do this.
  • Have you tried resetting the BIOS to Optimal RAM timings?
  • Is this by any chance a refurbished board?
  • What video card are you running? If it's not at least a GeForce-class card then you will probably want to switch the video cacheing to UC mode instead of USCW.

Good luck, I've suffered my share of frustrations with the A7V333-RAID.

For troubleshooting, you might also want to disable the USB 2.0, the onboard RAID and the onboard FireWire controllers, all of which are controlled by jumpers for some reason. Does that board have a lot of jumpers or what?

Asus engineer 1: Ok, that's a wrap. Board layout is complete.

Asus engineer 2: WAIT! I SEE A SPOT WHERE WE CAN FIT ANOTHER JUMPER! :Q

Asus engineer 1: Dude!

i CANT believe they still use jumpers, i mean they shoudl have it their JIC, but they shoudl primarily use the bios. grrrrrr!!!

im about to follow your other instructions, will post when finished, btw, i shifted the memory to the last slot furthest from the cpu, but still no go, will try 2nd slot also.

ok, i disabled the firwire, and moved the sound card to slot 4 with nic in 1 and agp in agp , also moved memory to slot 2

here is the status, at 1 GHz when i should be at 1.33, i am able to boot into windows more often than before, but still not every time. i am running cpu stability test and at the 4th test i am sustaning a temperature of 57 C. still hasn't locked up. i was wondering if it was the cpu getting too hot, i think i'll stop the test, bump up to 1.33 and then run the test again and monitor the temp. my temp high should be 95 C.

i still think its the damn mobo though.

at 1.33, i was able to get in by doing LKGC, and after running the test, im at 59C and no crashing. im probably going to try a format again and see what happens.

Had the same problem w/ a T-Bird 750 and A7V. It acted flaky
and would demonstrate a lot of errors. A friend suggested
I increase the voltage. I did and it worked flawlessly.

I picked up an A7V333 a few weeks ago and its the best mobo I have ever owned, Athlon 2000+ running at 140fsb and CPU temp is 25-35c..most of the time it sits right around 30c.

Installed it with zero problems whatsoever, it has never burped even once. With my Radeon 8500 64mb card I am getting over 10,000 3D marks.

Sorry to hear that yours is troublesome.
