Stupid Barton question

Are the new AMD chips unlocked by default? I've had a P4 for a year now and haven't kept up.

Depends on the mobo, but with the proper one(s), yes.

yes, they are unlocked when you put in nForce 2 boards but don't about other chip sets.

the Asus A7N8X which is using nForce 2 chip so it will unlock the chip

For the record, KT400, KT400A, and KT600 boards will unlock Tbreds and Bartons, too.

i use a KT400 (abit kd7-raid) and ive got access to all the multi's

One thing - while Asus mobos usually work pretty well, I'd never buy one. Their tech support is non-existant, and their "3-year" warranty is worthless. My sig says it all.....:evil:

A7N8X doesn't unlock all the multipliers though. It doesn't read the 5-bit thingy so you can only get either 5x-12.5x or 13x-20whatever x
