so on monday, I arrived home and there was an orange piece of paper on the door. It was a notice from Comcast that my house is a source of "signal leakage" and that it was severe enough to disconnect service. I was not happy. So i go inside and the digital cable works, but no internet. I called the number on the sheet they left and all i got was a recording asking for my name/address and phone number. they called back about an hour later and asked when a good time for a service call was. I suggested right then, and they said no, so i set up an appointment for this morning between 8 and 10.

THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP!!!

bastages... so i called them back and got the same recording and i'm waiting to hear back.

thoughts?

If its a CHSI issue, call back and go the the internet repair side. They will be able to see the open work order and if the tech is late, should be able to call their dispatch department to find where the tech is. I'm at work right now but you are in a different area than I am. I have no access to accounts in that area.

WTF is signal leakage?

The condition reminds me of anal leakage.

and what was the solution for that?
butt plug - Comcast must be having a lot of them. A major portion of their earnings come from PORN

signal leakage if i remember correctly comes from either old worn out coax or possible a wiring issue in the house causing an improper level on the line. I hate to say it but if the tech doesn't show up then 90% of the time they will bs you and say they need to come out tommorow instead. If they pull that garbage tell them you have to have them come out today. If you have to speak to a manager then do so to get it done. They always have a 5-7 time frame open in the evening for missed appointments and emergency stuff.

It happened to me once with Comcast.
What exactly they did when they came over to my house is to check where all the coaxial cable connection is, and they sealed ones that're not in use.
The Comcast technican said that every unuse cable connection regardless if it's cable television or cable internet will cause leakage.

After thinking about it, it sounded right to me because even you don't connect the cable into television or router, the data still flows on those coaxial cables.

It is nothing related with internet usage. At first, I thought they want to ban me because I use a lot of bandwidth.

comcast does suck for phone and tv service (going on one year of trying to resolve a simple name change on our cdv service), but there internet has service has been rock solid for me for a couple years now except a couple years back when they were having teh dns issues.

The thing that mystifies me the most is that just this summer we had a new line run from the pedestal out front to the house (dumbass neighbor sliced it with a shovel while in the process of putting up a retaining wall) and about 2 years ago, the internet was having issues (weak signal) and they ran new wire from the pedestal all the way to the cable modem.

I think they're just dicking me around and trying to get inside and try and sell us more service. I hear they're trying to launch some phone service of some sort.

worst part of it is, i had to be elsewhere at noon and i haven't been back home yet, so i don't know when/if they called back. i should be able to make it back by about 3, so hopefully i can bitch enough to get them there today.

I tried to order Comcast Digital Voice service but failed the 3rd party verification because they were repeating my phone number back incorrectly. I called back to Comcast and they told me I would have to wait for them to contact me. Unfortunately this gave me time to stew over their refusal to let me have Triple Play rates because I already have cable modem and basic cable. If I call them back again for it my first question to them will be "How long does my cable and internet service need to be disconnected before I am considered a new customer?".

Insight did me that way. Called it ingress/egress. Disconnected my internet, came out and did a whole lot of tests with a meter that none of the three techs knew how to read properly then narrowed in on my PC and told me that was the source and that they wouldn't reconnect until I got a new one.

Long story short, DSL + DishNetwork has been much better...

that would simply infuriate me... "buy a new computer or don't use our internet service" bullsh!t

i would tell that service guy to bite the curb

to Linflas

To be a new customer you need to disconnect for something like 6-12 months. My parents phone used to be under their name then i worked at comcast for a brief stint and had it changed to my name for the discount. I then left comcast. And have spent over a year trying to get them to change the phone number back to my parents name. In this process I have talked to over 20 csr's 5 managers filed 12 name change forms and my parents have lost service about 8 times for between 30 minutes -12 hours. The hard part is I haven't lived with my parents for close to a year and a half so it is hard to coordinate everything. I have tried being super nice, I even blew up once but it seems no one in New england comcast has the competancy to fix this issue. If it wasn't for the fact that my parents have had the same phone number for 40 years I would tell them to cancel everything and go elsewhere.

..my whole neighborhood leaks. Image quality is so bad the only way they can fix it is to rip it all out and run new cables. But they won't do it. I get tons of HD content over the air so I don't bother wit ViaLeak. My net is DSL and it works great.

Signal leakage like some have alluded to usually happens with an improperly terminated connector. More specifically the shielding on the end of the connector. If done improperly and under the right circumstances a piece of coax can turn into a long radial antenna spewing its signal into the air more or less.

I would check to make sure the ground wire outside your house is fastened and secured. Then you can start looking around for hoaky TV cables.
