So I'm heading back to LA from OC, minding my own business, going 72mph while on cruise control. Everything's going fine until I come behind this idiot in a Jeep Cherokee. The guy keeps going back and forth between 80mph and 60mph, in the fast lane, with NOBODY in front of him. On top of that, he keeps drifting left and right.

So I change lanes, and attempt to pass him while he's going 65mph. THE FVCKER CUTS ME OFF AND SLAMS ON HIS BRAKES!!! :| :| :|

Since the other lanes are filled and there's no passing lanes, I switch back to the fast lane. He gets back in front of me again, and proceeds to speed up and slow down again. A few more miles, and I get an opening and decide to pass him. We're going ~63mph. He cuts me off again! :| So I switch over two more lanes, and floor it. HE FLOORS IT. I finally managed to pass him at 90mph, with him still breathing down my neck. I hit the brakes a couple of times and he finally backed off.

WTF was his problem?!?! :Q

:| :| :|

Agreed.

Admittedly, that other guy was a jackass and deserved to be shot with a high caliber weapon, but 72 in the fast lane is way too slow.

Not everyone drives 90 in the fast lane.

LOL at your sarcasm or extreme ignorance

You know there's a reason that we younger folk have to pay higher insurance rates, right? It's because in general, 16-23 year olds are bad drivers.

Not everyone drives 90 in the fast lane.

the way i see it for cali highways... lane number 4 should be cleared of ppl traveling for awhile because it will help merging cars coming from the onramp or going to the offramp.

this leaves lane number 3 to be the slow lane for trucks and cars who feel like going a minimum of 65mph. i see the speed limit as being the speed minimum.

lane number 2 shuold be for high profile vehicles who want to go faster than lane 3.

lane number 1 should be for any non-high profile vehicle who want to go fast. the speed should be a minimum of no less than 75. the reason i say non-high profile vehicle is that by having one there, the car behind it will naturally go slower than the cars in front of it because they cant see damn thing in front of them.

of course, this is all theoretical. in my experiences of weekend driving from san diego to orange county and vice versa, everyone from slow cars to broken cars all move to lanes 1 and 2 just coz they are the "fast" lanes and they think they will go faster. but since everyone moves there, it just slows those lanes down. so i end up always taking lane 4 and passing everyone. its funny coz i still continue to see dumb drivers moving to the left

I was still blowing by people, and I'd adjust my cruise speed depending on what batches of traffic I came upon. I always go ~5mph faster than regular traffic. I don't want to attract unwanted attention to myself.

<-- Always ready for cops merging onto the freeway.

so then just go 80mph in the fast lane. no cop will pull u over for that. in the slower lanes, yes, but not the fast one. its not like you are really going 80 anyways. i think alot of cars have upto 10% error in the speedometer when going 70mph so that can translate to only 63mph. so going 80, you maybe going as slow as 72 anyways.

Cops pull you over for going over the limit no matter what lane you're in. The people that like to go 90 on the freeway are usually picked up a few miles down the road. I see it all the time and it's hilarious.

The way I look at it for 4 lane CA highways is:
Lane 4-Drive in there when you are exiting/merging or driving a POS that wont go more than 45mph
Lane 3-Since trucks use this and their limit is 55, so I guess thats what you are driving at.
Lane 2-Drive around 65-70 but definitely not below the limit. If you drive below the limit, go to the truck lane.
Lane 1-Unless you are driving above 75, Please dont block the Fast Lane

These conditions apply for moderate traffic only.

Well put, that's the way it oughta be. People can argue all you want about how 70-75 is "plenty fast" for the fast lane, but if you're not passing people on your right you should not be in the lane you're in, regardless of which lane it is. If people are coming up behind you, you're going too slow and you need to move, no matter how fast you're going. If you want to save yourself the headache of having to move over every 5 seconds, you're gonna need to be over 75 MPH, minimum. If you don't like it, don't drive in the fast lane.

As for that guy in the Jeep, he sounded really drunk to me. I would have just done what I could to avoid him, even if it meant slowing down or just pulling off for a few minutes and stretching my legs.

I have had people do that stuff to me as well. Sometimes I wish I had a pickup with barrels I could "deploy" out the back at those people.

Man, the other day I was driving around in my new car. And some MORON woman driving an suv make a left turn onto the road i'm going on, she practically smashed right into me. She ended up stopping in the other lane, and stopping traffic but man, if she had hit me in that thing it surely would have totalled my car. She ended up being behind me so to be an ass I decided to drive way under the speed limit just so that she was held back there. Everytime I saw her try to pass me I would gun it and get far enough for her to think I was going to speed up, then I would just slow down and remain at the 25 mile an hour speed. It was funny, she was rather angry with me.

PICS?

Sorry about the large file size. And yeah, I know that the grill fell off the front right side, I have yet to find out where the hell it went.

It's louder and faster than it looks, the owner before me modded it up from 210hp (stock) up to 250hp. Should be adding more stuff soon. It's too bad I can't get a new PCM for it though.

Perhaps I'm just not competitive but in your situation as described, I would've merged to slower traffic for a while till the guy was gone....

There is nowhere I need to be so fast that risking the death of myself or another is necessary.

The guy was stupid, crazy or both. That's the type of person I try to avoid. I certainly don't get into races with them on a busy freeway.

Sounds an aweful lot like what a driver who has a distaste for tailgaters would do.

It's funny until YOU run into someone in front of you because you are paying attention to pissing the lady off behind you.

Growing up is hard to do, I know. But please try when you are behind the wheel.
