i'm weird with coffee, at home i'll go months of drinking nothing but espresso, then i'll switch to iced for a few months and then go back to espresso again

if my only option is drip coffee though, i'll usually go without tbqh

some instant coffee like nescafe isn't bad if i absolutely need some

also will not drink keurig, although the nespresso pods aren't bad in a pinch

One day, we might spring for an espresso machine. For now, we just have a 3-cup Chemex, a French press, and a Capresso Infinity burr grinder (that's approaching its 9th year of daily operation).

Anything with a hot plate is terrible = burnt bitter coffee. A friend says the drip makers that use a thermos make good coffee.

I don't care for the pods either. Only my own reusable.

It that less work than a ceramic pour over with natural filters? That'd be nice. Standing there adding hot water is annoying and I end up using the Keurig 95% of the time instead. French press is in the hurricane supplies I think?

It's basically the same. Paper filter holds the coffee, and you pour hot water over it. I have an electric water kettle which speeds the heating water part, and the whole process is kind of a routine now. I can prepare my breakfast as I make the coffee.

I find Keurigs weak, and I hate the extra waste it makes. I used to have a 4-cup Mr Coffee, but it broke many years ago and I never bothered to replace it.

I have a Bonavita with the thermal carafe which is coming up on like 8 years of twice daily use. Thing is a tank. All I have to do is descale it, use a dishwasher pod on the carafe, and clean the pouring lid every so often.

Weak, not hot enough, and tastes off I assume from the plastic IMO. Nespresso is a MUCH better system if people want a pod based coffee and the expendables are recyclable.
I agree the Nespresso is a better choice for a pod-based, single serving system. We have one of those too, but it's stored away and we haven't purchased pods for it for a long time.

I have the office model, it is 7-8 years old now. I don't use the disposable pods. I have reusable I fill with my own fresh ground. It has a strong option that works well for a 12oz cup. Since I drink straight black as the spaghetti monster intended, I find the temp perfect, as I can immediately drink it.

We can start a whole new discussion

you will have to pry my Rancilo Silvia from my grave if you want me to give it up. Recently spent $250 on it for a new heater, all new seals, new thermostats and heat transfer compound and group head gasket. took me maybe 3 hours to tear it all down, clean and replace stuff. it gets up to temp much faster and produces better steam after a rebuild. It's over 20 years old and has many 10s of thousands of cups out of it
totally manual. matching grinder as well.

I just have a $100 Delonghi for my espresso desires, it's satisfactory, and easy to use and clean.

I use my work Thermos® for my coffee whether it's going out or not. It's beat to shit, and unsexy for a home thermos, but it keeps stuff hot forever, and I already have it. It gets used every single day, and has been for the last ~10 years. It replaced an older work thermos that still worked, but wasn't as nice to use. I can pull it out of retirement if needed.

I had one of these, probably before some of you were born.
The #1 filters were very hard to find.

It was actually this color.

i loved those 70s/80s plastic colors! they went great with the orange shag carpet, the green couch and the marble linoleum flooring.

growing up even the most mundane things were brightly colored, filling me with all the BPA my body could absorb.

I do love the taste of French press coffee too. I use the aeropress for two reasons. One the paper filter filters out certain oils which can lead to higher cholesterol. And second is the cleanup. It's just so much faster and simpler with the aeropress. I do like the XL version of the aeropress though as it's much easier to make a higher quantity

Gawd...no instant coffee for me ever. It's been at least 40 years since I drank that nasty stuff. Like lxskllr, if instant coffee is all there is, I'll take a cuppa.

I've used Bunn coffeemakers for...more than 30 years. When I was working and commuting, in the morning, I needed coffee FAST. I'd make a pot, fill my 1 qt thermos jug and one cup for me to drink while I packed my lunch, a few minutes later, 2nd pot, pour most of that into my 2 qt thermos, get the 3rd pot ready...when the water was hot, (after two pots, it took about 20 minutes to heat) I'd run the 3rd pot, finish filling my 2 qt thermos and the rest would go into travel mugs for the 2 hour drive to work.

Obviously, I'm NOT a coffee snob...and I drink Folgers. It's mountain grown...that's the richest kind.
