MacBaine answered this. I think this is another arena where you get the US measurements vs the world contest showing again, ie US vs Metric. I find it even stranger that we measure our tanks and artillary cannons in mm (like 120mm Abrams and 155mm self-propelled) but the point-defense guns on those same tanks are measured in inches (.50 cal).
Maybe since mm are smaller we can use a larger number for that same size and that makes is seem more intimidating.
