Wife and I were driving home from our rare date night since we produced an offspring.

We were at a stop during red light in a small intersection. I was watching the light in red, then we got rear ended. It was not strong, but it gave me a mild whiplash.

We walked out and saw this H3 hummer and two teenage girls behind us. Their car was okay. Our Accord coupe got a deep gash.

We called the cops first to cover our asses. Right away, these brats were completely unapologetic, and told the police that the lights turned green. Lying from the get-go.

After the report was taken, we were free to go, but this bratty ass driver asked us to wait for her BOYFRIEND to come. I said begrudgingly agreed. Took about TWENTY minutes and this equally young kid in a BMW SUV rolled up and inspected our car and took pictures of it.

Next day, the idiots texted me about settling it outside of insurance. I've had it with their attitude, and told them about their lying, then she called me and started to do that ghetto 'latina-chick-talking-non-stop-over-you' thing.

Then the boyfriend got on the call and told me to 'turn it down a notch'. I've had it. Once you get me going, I'll get going. I went full force shouting at them and called some names akin to 'come back after you're done being breastfed'.

We got a quote a week later, and asked for cash to protect ourselves. They didn't like it, so we decide to go to insurance.

An hour later, the driver's mommy called me and agreed to pay us in cash.

God damn effin' brats. I thought I was an asshole as a teenager- completely rotten attitude from day 1. They're lucky I haven't gone completely vindictive and start going to hospital for whiplash.

You have your police report. You even went above and beyond and waited for the boyfriend to come and take pictures. The lying would have pissed me off and ended all possibilities of being nice and cooperating with them. Plus they hit you so you will have your compensation.

Ghetto hood rats. Gotta love 'em. Some of them sooner or later figure out how the world works...

Screw them. Nail their insurance. Go to a doc and get checked out and send their insurance the bill. You were way too nice.

Never stick around with angry people whom you've been involved in an accident with, unless someone is hurt. And that is only until the police show up. Then goodbye. By the way, I wouldn't have waited a whole week to report the accident to my insurance company. Any time you suspect an injury, forget the cash settlement. Also, if you even only suspect whiplash, see a doctor. You or your wife may need physical therapy. These things can crop up later.

I had a small accident back in the 90's. I was rear ended like you. It was only a 5 to 10 mph tap and no injuries. It was winter. My car was filthy, and I couldn't tell if I had a scratch or not on the bumper. Almost let the kid drive off. Though his (mom's) Civic suffered some visible front bumper and hood damage. Small cars are death traps. But I decided to take the insurance info anyway. My insurance company's appraiser, who inspected my car, saw what I didn't. There were dimples on each rear side quadra-panel. There was also hidden damage to the bumper. Repair was over $2,000. Glad I got the insurance information. Would have cost me a deductible to boot.

Don't know why you are wasting time getting into verbal arguments with them. You are not at fault, and you are in the driver's seat (pun intended). You can only weaken your case by fighting with them. Any crap and I'd have said I'm filing an insurance claim and I'd have hung up on them.

You were way too nice and managed to keep your cool. Knowing their home address via the insurance company,
I would have taken the time at midnight and hit their Hummer 3 with a baseball bat.

Hope you took some pics of your own OP. I wouldn't ever accept cash in payment for any damages. Let the appraiser (who has a trained eye) inspect the damage and what needs to be fixed.
Claim it against their insurance for all the cost involved. Also, as mentioned go to a doctor to check for potential back or neck injury.

Oh, pics of wife and offspring.

This, and I'm not just agreeing because the kids were being d-bags. You said you have whiplash, go get checked out. Fuck dealing with them on the side, that's what insurance is for... As a stranger you get one, MAYBE two chances for me to be nice, then fuck off.

Why do you care about their increased premiums after they acted the way they did?

At least they stuck around and didn't run...This happened to me in 2012:

That was a rental car I had while my other car was being repaired after yet another rear-end collision. I was on my way to turn it back into the rental company when BANG! and the guy took off. (the CHP finally caught up to him thanks to a lady who took pics (and got his license plate) with her phone.

That right there is a prime reason to buy the extra no questions asked insurance when renting a car.

YouTube is littered with car crash videos of people rear-ending others with absolutely no clue whatsoever.

That's what I was thinking too. Why else would you hit a fully stopped car at a redlight? The dumbass had to have been completely oblivious.
I got very lightly tapped by someone after I stopped at a light that had just turned red, with a few cars ahead of me.
"There's no damage, it's ok! I'm sorry, I was just texting!"

Nope. I motioned to pull off to a parking lot, and he complied. No, there was no damage, not so much as a scuff on the paint, and it was indeed a light bump, almost like someone had walked into the car.

No dashcam, so word-vs-word. Just the way he said it though was like "I was just texting, that's why I hit you. You understand, right? Everyone bangs into things that way."
I hate dumb shits who can't put the goddamn phone down and drive the car. Throw the thing out the window and drive over it. Addicted idiots.

This constantly comes to mind: "I don't bother with seat belts. I'm a good driver."
Uh huh. 1) There's a good chance that you're average. 2) Not everyone else is the exquisitely-skilled driver you are. If you're sitting still at an intersection and your car gets rolled by someone crashing into you, being thrown out of the wreck isn't top on my list of options.

I once had a coworker in my car try to argue that he didn't need seat belt because he was in the back. I then reminded him of the laws of physics and how he'd become a projectile in the event of an accident, potentially also hurting the people in the front.

Where I grew up, my high school's parking lot was littered with cars from Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and other rather new vehicles from other major manufacturers. I guess some people just have money to burn on both cars and insurance for teens. I was very happy driving a 9 year old '97 Ford Taurus my parents gave me with the provision that I pick up the gas and liability insurance.

Weird. Do most people just have absolutely no understanding of either physics, or what happens to a car and its contents in a crash?

Or people who don't know anything about debt, or don't care about working until the day they die.
But yes, some people are definitely from well-monied families. Someone I knew in college: Her dad was a police chief, and her mom was in the pharmaceuticals industry. Her rooms combined were about 40% of the total square footage of the house I grew up in.
