STUPID MOSQUITOS! - uh BTW how come they don't pass around AIDS?

I just slapped a mosquito on my hand and saw blood splatter out. Now I have two questions about this damn thing.

1. This mosquito was sucking someone's blood and came over to me to suck some more blood. What if the first person had AIDS? How come I don't get AIDS or do I?

2. It's cool if they just want my blood, but they gotta leave the stupid annoying itch (which I'm experiencing now). Why is that?

no reason to fear that a mosquito or other insect could transmit HIV from one person to another through HIV-infected blood left on its mouth parts. Several reasons help explain why this is so. 1) Amount of blood/AIDS virus that a mosquito may be carrying is not enough to infect another person. Also I don't think the virus stays alive outside for that long either. Mosquitos can transmit malaria but not in this country. Oh yeah, they can also transmit heartworm but only to your dogs.

2. When you get bitten by a mosquito they inject a small amount of saliva beneath your skin. If you are allergic to it, then it itches. As it is, most people are allergic. Some don't feel anything after they get bitten. Lucky SOBS.

Yellow Fever/Malaria actually infect the mosquito too - so the viruses are sound in the mosquito's saliva. When it bites you, the saliva enters your blood stream - and you contract the virus. Now - the Mosquito can't be affectled by Aids, since it is a human virus - so once it enters the mosquito, it usually get's digested - and used as food for the females eggs. Mosquitos also usually only feed off of one victim during a feeding - so there is usually no blood in the mosquito when it first bites you.

The itch is caused by the mosquito's saliva. The saliva has a anti blood clotting compound in it, which adgitates the skin, causing the itch and the bump

Hey if you like mosquitos, there's a new video game out in Japan for the Playstation 2 where you are a Mosquito and you try to bite people. What will they think of next?

if you let the mosquito finish and pull out itself (that sounds really bad), it will take most of the saliva out and it won't itch (its hard to sit there and watch it though).

Also, they are attracted to certain smells... so lay off the cologne and don't eat bananas (I think that is one of the things that brings them to you).

man i must be super allergic. When a mosquito bites me I get a dime to quarter sized goosebump, they are HUGE...

I am guessing that in some circumstances it could happen - but would happen so infrequently DO NOT worry about it.

I think it could happen if: Aids person gets bitten and the mosquito then comes to you and basically chows down on an open wound on you and you swat it. I have indeed had mosquitoes bite me when they already had some blood, so I have had to splatter other people's blood on me before. However this happening plus being on an open wound, plus being from an aids carrier, plus having been in the mosquito for such a short period, etc...very unlikely.

The general answer given is that mosqitoes cannot transmit it.
