dennil, though they might be happy the Rs had nothing to do with the decision. It was internal to nasa from what I read.

But, yeah, I was disappointed too at face value. The truth is nasa's cost overruns and mismanagement in key areas has become legendary. While I never supported the left-Gore view that basically would have abolished nasa, I agree that they needed to tighten-up. This was just the first grinding sound -- more to come?

The problem is we're still stuck with the aging and way-to-expensive to maintain shuttle system. I'm afraid nasa's gonna just have to suck up and find even cheaper ways to handle the &quot;big projects&quot;.

Ehh, it's hard to be mad at NASA. Space flight is rocket science. It's hard, expensive, and unpredicable. While NASA doesn't have anything tangable at the moment, what they've gained in research has to be priceless.

Though many people see NASA as a waste of money, to me it could be nothing farther from it (I am not speaking of how it is run. THat is wasteful. They need to clean up their act. I am speaking about the program itself).

There are many reasons for this. The technology gained from space exploration is one of them. Another though, and far more important IMO, is that it is the fulfilling (sp?) of the dreams of many people. My dreams lie in space. Out there, my curiosity abounds. I have stayed up all night just gazing at the stars, never even coming close to falling asleep. It is the final frontier. It is part of human nature to explore and discover. If we abolish this program, and others like it, we are in effect killing a part of ourselves. I for one have no wish to kill my dreams. For what are we without them?
