the diagram
So I was driving along pulling a trailer when i approach this scene of a cop on the right pulling someone over, cop on the left appearing to be turning around in the median with light on.
Since trucks usually pull over for cops he does, but i thinking i dont want to get in this turning cops way mainly, slam on my brakes and freak out the car next to me, and just trying to remain overall sane, just stay in my lane and slow down to about 40 (from 55). Well soon as i pass by i see the lights in my rearview, cop turning around was coming to pull me over. Told me i didn't pull over to the left hand lane for the cop on the side, its a new AZ law that says you have to "whenever it is feasable to do so". I'm like wtf right as a car nearly clips HIM. So were there talking back and forth and could count the cars doing the EXACT SAME THING, there were about 20 (busy highway), including 2 18 wheelers.
Anyways he just gave me a warning and told me to pull to the left no matter what from now on.

Notes:
Didnt pull over for stopped cop, another cop pulls me over, get a warning

A good letter to the editor on this exact law:

What was the speed limit? 55? Most of the move over laws say either move over or slow down by 20mph.

in colorado i see cops doing their thing from the passenger side of the car. seems more common sense than making a stupid law.

posted speed limit was 65...i was going 55 cause i was pulling a trailer...
AZ is ambigious to its "slow down" rule...just whatever is "safe"

not sure whats so hard to understand...

I didn't pull to left hand lane while Cop B was pulled over while Cop A was in median with lights on...cop A pulls me over for not pulling over to left for cop B

I finally figured it out on my own, but your latest post still didn't help.

I made a partially helpful diagram.

I was driving. One cop car was on the right and another was on the left. Both cops had their lights on.

I did not want to get in the way of the cop in the median, so I slowed down and remained in the far right lane. The cop in the median pulled me over. A new Arizona law requires drivers to pull over to the left lane in a situation like this. I was given a warning.

I am here to whine and complain that other people also break the law and got away with it.

Yea up here, when theres an emergency vehicle on the shoulder, you need to move to the far lane if possible, and slow to 60KM/HR (from 110KM/HR).

Back when this law was just brand new, we didnt know about it and my buddy was clocked at 101km/hr (100km limit) while passing a police car that had pulled another car over. The fine was to be $450, but let us go with warning since it was a brand new law.

Im all for it. Enough of these cops getting smoked while doing their jobs. Yet I still do not understand how someone gets close enough to a car on the shoulder to take out someone standing beside that car.

If the cop in the intersection doing the U turn had his lights on, then you were right to stay in your lane. However, you should have slowed down significantly.

Good way to cause a major pileup, in and of itself. Genius! How many times has the cop gotten hit by debris from the resulting wreck so far?

Florida has the same law, or at least similar. You have to slow by 20MPH below the speed limit (at least, or to 5MPH if speed limit is 25MPH or less) and whenever possible switch to a lane further away from the cop. Only have to do it if they have their emergency flashing lights on. Linkage

I would imagine it's tough for the police to enforce the pullover whenever possible rule, if there was any traffic at the time it happened. I imagine that's why you got the warning and not a ticket. The 20MPH Drop is easier and they have setup traps for that (I've been told).

It sucks because if you are crusing down the highway at 75MPH and the speedlimit is 70, you have to drop to 50MPH in a short period of time without causing an accident yourself (getting rearended by the a-hats that think 75MPH is too slow). Been there, done that (didn't get hit). Still, Not fun.

If it wasn't for stupid people running into (cop) cars on the side of the road we wouldn't have that law to begin with.

That animation is the high point of this thread.

Texas has similar law. I got pull over in Dallas a few months ago for the same thing. I only got a warning since I wasn't a Texas resident.

It's not stupid...many states have that law. You know how many officers are hit on the roads every year? It only makes sense...move over if there's a cop parked on the right.
