I also wear a Looxcie Bluetooth camera that does DVR and records over the oldest footage automatically. Combining it with a dedicated DVR gives you dash and POV perspectives.

I'd like one that records from several wide-angle lenses to capture as much as possible. I'm sure it would require more storage...but that's fine with me.

Just learn to keep your distance from other vehicles by not following them too closely and not speeding. >30 years of driving and no accident caused by me. It's all about having control of the car and watching for every potential accident that could happen around you while on the road.

Here's a nice one.

How many miles per year and where do you drive, have a lot to do with this.

Only my last accident was 'technically' my fault even though it was a setup for an insurance settlement. I tapped them at 10-15mph. The rest I have been ran into even stopped at a red light.

That's one of the main reasons I can't ever see a motorcycle for me in the area I live.

dont know who to trust...maybe since its a manual it did roll back?

i once accidentally backed out of a spot and scratched the hell out of this guy's car. i apologized profusely and offered to pay for damages. the guy just shrugged it off and said it was ok. couldnt believe how calm he was about it. whew.

That guy got charged... Finally bothered to look at the video, and it looks pretty clear what it was to me.

If you apologize and don't antagonize someone right away by yelling at him or blaming him, they may be nicer to you.

Also no one has really recommended anything except one...I am looking here as well for something. This morning a 'fake undercover cop' was going down I95 'flashing his blues' at people. I knew something was up because the strobes were not aligned with each other. I called FHP and they said it wasn't them and would be sending a Trooper to investigate.

I didn't have his plates and I wasn't going to weave through traffic now coming to a halt over it.

I'd really like something smaller than what's above. My navigation can take a video signal if I need to display anything.

Why not just use a GoPro, like the HD Hero 960, with the car charger and a 32GB SD card?

Dashcams usually always record and keep recording from the start they run out of memory.

I actually just got a GoPro (picking up after work) to use for work and funshit. Need to get a car charger/car-USB adapter for it to run long lengths of time.

That's not a bad idea. If you think drivers in MO are bad (I've spent quite a bit of time here), you should see how people drive in Louisiana...scary.
Comes to Texas to see jacka*ses

I live in Texas and most of the crazy drivers I've experience are young white rednecks and middle aged white women. I've seen are middle aged white women and young male rednecks.
You're forgetting about the Asian ladies driving the dinged-up minivans. Seriously, there are a few at work who routinely ding up other employee's cars in the parking lot. Most folks know never to park near them

How can you possibly get any texting done while you do all of that?

I need this badly, commuting 50+ miles a day in a small honda civic. Blind assholes try to merge into me constantly while I'm in the left lane.

I've had a truck run me off the road, almost been hit by a SUV who ended up completely totally his car after I dodged him (he continued into the concrete medium), and just recently almost had a cabbie kill me by deciding not to continue on the off-ramp he had taken but instead swinging back into me at full speed with not a care in the world (luckily no one was on the other side of me so I was able to swerve instantly).

Alternatively I guess I could get some obnoxiously large thing to mount on my car so people see me more easily.

I gotta agree with Phokus. Daily Roads is a perfect solution for me. I'm planning on using my Thunderbolt with a minimal ROM just for this app (and Torque) once the SGS3 drops. Here's a vid I made today with it. The app only plays back GPS location, speed, time, etc. in it's own viewer. However, the videos play back in anything. It will also run in the background, so you use GPS, Pandora, etc. without interruption.

Daily Roads: Google Play
Clip: YouTube

FInally used my GoPro Hero2 today. Just used a Garmin GPS charger (5v 1amp) to keep it running. I used the helmet webbing/straps to attach it to the headrest of the passenger seat rather than get a suction cup mount.

Day time video looks great. Nice 170 degree view. If you can find a GoPro Hero 1 or 980 on sale/clearance for less than $200, might be worth it - the pre-Hero 2 versions are notorious for low light performance though. Youtube looks fine, but you're dash caming, not showing anything major off, so...

I'm interested in a similar setup, would you mind taking a picture of it?

I'm inclined to believe it was just an accident. First, a guy who's scamming is likely in a crap car, not that one. Also, he hit him extremely gently indeed and it cannot have produced much damage at all.

I will get a dash cam at some point. They're so damn cheap now.

Gopro is a nice camera but a pita to constantly turn on and off.
