I know will sound stupid to some of you, but will a 266 FSB T-Bird 1.4 GHz chip work in a Msi K7T Pro2-A? Or do you need a 200 FSB Chip?

Do Msi K7T Pro2-A have support for 266 fsb? If not, a 1,4 ghz processor with 266fsb will still work but underclocked to 1050mhz so it would work but atleast I think thats a waste of money.

I believe that motherboard has support for the 133MHz FSB. If not, you can always unlock your CPU and run it at 14x100MHz to get your 1.4GHz.

The MSI K7T Pro2 supports the Athlon XP so it has 133Mhz/266Mhz support. My brother in law has the same board. There are issues with ram (brand) that prevents him from using two 512Mb DDR Dimms.

Ok, basically I want to upgrade my processor. I have a duron 700 as we speak. My motherboard supports a maximum of 1.2 GHZ. And the manual says this at the beginning. Based on this, what is my best option? Can I get an 1.4 and overclock it to 1.4? Can I get an XP and put it in that mboard. Will a 266 FSB Processor be backwards compatible with my motherboard? Thanks.

i think it's a waste of money cuz that mobo wont last long. I had the same version and it died after about 12 months in usage. MSi wont let me rma them and my vendor is not supportive at all. Just spend some more money and buy a new mobo with DDR capable.

I think the board should be able to support a 1.4GHz CPU wether or not it says it only supports up to 1.2GHz. Of course, if you don't want to take the chance then a 1.2GHz will do nicely. To see if you can overclock to 1.4GHz, go into your BIOS, see what the highest multiplier it supports is. If the (multiplier)x133MHz => 1400MHz, then you can do it without raising the FSB.

The MSI K7T Pro2 does not support the 266MHz FSB. With the latest BIOS it will officially support upto an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz on the 200MHz FSB.
Also, it will unofficially support any currently available AthlonXP however you will still have to run it on the 200MHz FSB.

Is the 266 MHZ Bus On Processors "backward" compatible with the motherboard? The reason I ask this is because the cheapest 1.4 200 MHZ FSB is 30 bux more expensive than the 266 Version of the same CPU!!!

Man.. a lot of people reply without knowing anything, or just fxckin in guessing, it's ruining these forums.

Aright. You got KT133 chipset, which does not support 133/266 FSB, you can only run at 100 (some say up to 115, but I've never seen it, definately not to 133)

These are the two processors available and this is what they will default to.

200 FSB 1.4 --> 100 x 14
266 FSB 1.4 --> 133 x 10.5

You can get either, but the 200 FSB version will work right off the bat (or should with that BIOS upgrade if I understand things correctly) without you having to tinker with it. If you get the 266 and it's not factory unlocked, then you have to unlock it and run it at 14 x 100, if your mobo supports 14x manually. If it doesn't, then the only one that will work is the 200 FSB one. What I'm saying, is in order to rig the 133/266 FSB version, your board has to have a 14x setting either in the BIOS or as a jumper on the board. If not, then you have to get the 200 FSB one, that one will just default to 14x regardless. Seen!</FONT>
