Stupid question about Unix (Irix, in this case)

I think it's a MIPS R10000, but I'm not sure. Is there a simple unix command I can type from the terminal that'll give me info on the specs of the machine?

dmesg may provide some information, but probably not if the machine hasn't been booted in a while.

Everything is superscalar.

What box are you working on? SGI O2? How are you finding it?

What box are you working on? SGI O2? How are you finding it?

I'm mad because it's superscalar because I have to, in a sense, emulate some of the more complicated features for some work I'm doing. I obviously won't do out of order execution, but...I dunno. Whatever happened to VLIW?! :-D

As for the box, I have no idea. I think it might be an Origin or something. I've never actually seen it....I only use it remotely. I just use it because it was the most convienant machine in my lab that had a decent F90 compiler and access to low-level performance counters. I figured it was an R10000, but I wanted to be sure.

The real fun starts when I have to deal with a Power4 or Power5. Sigh.

Apparently it's getting some promotion in the encryption market.

Apparently it's getting some promotion in the encryption market.

It's been getting promotion for years but never really went anywhere. And after the experiences we've had with the few we bought, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I just meant that in the sense that trying to figure out what a superscalar machine is really, REALLY hard.

And when you're in the performance modeling and analysis game, that's bad.
