I've surprisingly had no issues with bags, and I have even less of a hassle when I carry a gun in my bad. It actually seems to go easier depending on the carrier. When I flew alaska last I got the bag screened privately and the TSA guy didn't even look through it, just swabbed around the gun case and the zippers to make sure there were no explosives and then let it go through approved.
Yeah, usually flying with a gun has been pretty painless, though once I had the TSA guys do a complete hand-search of my checked bag w/firearm. As if I'd hide something in there when I already declared a firearm...
