Stuttering connection (DSL w/ Winpoet2)

I installed and am using Winpoet 2 with my earthlink DSL service. I've also installed internet explorer 5.5. I don't know if it's an IE5.5 or a winpoet issue, but i notice that fairly often when I click on a link or try to go to a bookmark, there is a delay. During this delay which usually lasts a couple of seconds, the lights on the network connection icon in the tray are not lit. Then all of a sudden the lights come on and the page loads. Any ideas of why this happens?

I am not that familiar with earthlink, but did you setup IE to go through earthlink's proxy server first? The delay may be from your computer accessing the proxy server.

I have a cable connection, and having to go through the proxy server slows things down. So I just configure IE with proxy blank.

I would agree that you don't want to go through a proxy server if you don't have to.

But if you aren't doing that, do you have an "idle timeout" setting in winpoet? Pacbell uses enternet, which has a setting that will timeout after a certain amount of inactivity.

Maybe your connection is timing out, and it has to relogin when you try to connect to something. If so, you should be able to find this setting and change it. Sometimes setting the idle timeout to 0 seconds disables it.
