Stuttering during dvd movies

I am getting some stuttering while playing dvd movies on my pc. It occurs in the dvd menu AND during the movie.

I've tried replacing the drive with a different brand.
My drivers are up to date.
It happens with all dvd movies.
I dont have any problems playing dvd games
The drives are correctly installed.
I've used several different dvd software, but I get the same problem.
I have a gig of ram and no background programs running, nor spyware nor viruses.

Please help me, this is really getting on my nerves. Any suggestions?

Hmm..I had the same issue but replacing the drive fixed it. What about trying different dvd software?

Have you checked your dvd player softeare's settings and disabled/enabled anything related to hardware permance improvments?


What are your system specs?

What software is running?
Have you got defrag software, av software, indexing yoots etc running in the background?
Where is your pagefile, is it on the same IDE channel?

Im running an A64 2.0ghz on a MSI NER FSR (k8t) board w/ 1gig of ram, one 120gb seagate ide hard drive. I've tried using WMP, real player, VLC player, and PowerDVD. I've tried both an AOpen dvd/cdrw combo and a Pioneer dual-layer dvd burner, neither on the same ide cable as the hard drive.

I'm using symantec anti-virus and disabling it doesnt seem to change anything. I've looked through each players settings and cant find any particular setting that is affecting the problem. I use Perfect disk and I defrag every month or so.

I THINK I'VE ISOLATED THE PROBLEM

I tried disabling my sound card (sound blaster live value 24bit) on a rumor that sometimes the sound card will interfere and the dvd playback was perfectly fine!

HOWEVER, this just leads to a new problem - how to play dvds with my soundcard enabled...gah

Alright, its fixed. Turns out one of my IDE channels did not have DMA enabled and that was causing my sound card to hate DVDs
