Stuttering with OC'd X2 3600+

I have a weird issue with my new X2...it's stable in SuperPi 32M and Orthos, and the RAM passes Memtest without a hitch, but I get this strange stuttering issue in normal use (i.e. Browsing the internet on Firefox). Every few minutes, my computer will just sort of "lock up" for a second or so, even if the system is not under load (i.e. when I click on a text box in a web page). While I'm gaming or encoding, however, the system never experiences this stuttering problem. I have no idea why this happens (and why it's only while the system is in everyday use, not under load) since I'm pretty sure my system is stable...I have also installed the AMD Dual Core Optimizer, appropriate AMD Dual Core Drivers, Updated BIOS, and updated CPU Drivers to ACPI Multiprocessor within Windows. I never got this stuttering with my overclocked 3500+ at 2.8 GHz, yet I get it with my X2 at 2.6 GHz...can anyone tell me why and give me some ideas to solve this major annoyance?

I think it has something to do with the interrupts caused by the cd drive/s. That's what caused my problem.

I'm planning to get a new 250 or 320GB SATA Hard drive in the near future, so the reinstall will most likely wait until then (don't want to reinstall to my 3 year old Seagate ATA hard disk since I'm converting it to external)

Does anyone know of a quicker fix than a complete reformat and reinstall?

Maybe it's throttling, and as soon as you put load on it, it has to stop throttling, and hence the stutter ? I dunno, check the energy saving options in your bios ?

Does it happen when you're not OCing? (Your post doesn't make it clear you tried...)

I got a chance to try out different clock speeds...and yes, this issue happens even at 1.9 GHz...I tested with ORTHOS again and also SuperPi 32M and everything seemed to be fine...however, when I'm viewing a page or trying to type something in a text box, my system just randomly locks up for short spurts...it gets really annoying after about the 10th time...

I don't think it's a hardware issue because it happens even at stock speeds...so any1 know how I might solve this issue?

As most of you may know allready, the power supply is the single most important component in your ENTIRE computer. Many people tend to overlook this fact, and slap in a $50 PSU along with $3000 of high end hardware.

Now, you may ask yourself... "What CAN actually happen?".

Well, apart from waking up one morning, only to find out your beloved box will not turn on, while smelling slightly like day-after-4th-of-July... There ARE many more things that can happen, and actually DO happen to most of us. "What could it be?" you ask yourself.

Has your computer ever "frozen" on you ? Or "stalled" whilst doing some work ? I know what your thinking... "Bah, that's because my OC isn't stable". That could be a possibility... But, it could also be that your power supply had a sudden "dip" in the voltages, which effectively caused your system to become un-responsive !

Well...I did make a post about this in the PSU forum because I was suspecting exactly that...but the relies all said that my PSU was good enough and that it most likely wasn't the culprit...and also, if my PSU dipped in voltages during normal use, then how would it make it through a night of ORTHOS without exploding?

I don't know how to solve this issue still...it annoys me to no end right now...

Does it only happen when your on the web? If so I would suspect a driver issue with the NIC or wireless card if you connect to a wireless access point.

Try updating the driver on your NIC/Wireless, I would also update your bios to the latest

If it happens when you access the HDD, I would check to make sure the HDD is not defaulting to PIO mode.

I did use MSI's latest BIOS, but it seemed to be worse for overclocking than v1.5, so I reverted to v1.5 instead of continuing ot use the latest versoin.

I don't think my wireless is at fault because this doesn't just happen when i am web surfing

I'll check out the PIO mode thing though. My HDD does seem to be abnormally slow in everyday use even though HDTach shows it to be pretty much normal in data transfer rates.

What psu do you have?

Dual +12v rails at 16/18A, max power draw 25A

It's nothing fancy, but I think it's decent considering my setup doesn't need that much power, especially since I dialed down the VCore some more to 1.35V and set my OC to 2.5 GHz

If is a Brisbane why do you have soooo much vcore? It should run fine at 2.7 with no volts, like my OC

obviously, as you can tell by the vCore needed...i have a crappy crappy Brisbane

maybe try running the cpu stock speed with one memory stick and try different memory slots

make sure the cpu is seated right. slippage can cause small system blinks like the one your describing.
